We had the recent pleasure of spending 4 nights at the LaNaux Mansion in New Orleans; a great place, wonderful people, and conveniently located directly adjacent to the French Quarter. Even though our incoming flight was weather delayed by several hours, Ruth greated us at midnight with a cheerful smile and answered all our questions. The Mansion is a charming place; well maintained, spotlessly clean, with beautiful gardens that were a delight to sit in each morning and have coffee and the delicious pastries that the Mansion provided.

I highly recommend the LaNaux mansion to anyone wanting a few days of comfort, peace, and quiet in New Orleans, especially if the French Quarter is your destination,

Jim,
Illinois

The Lanaux Mansion may have made it into the Forbes Best B&B list but I'm afraid to say that the Lanaux House is riding on those old laurels and nothing more.
We stayed over Christmas - I did expect a wee bit of seasonal cheer - but not a fairy light or bauble to be found - stuffed up the chimney with care I'm guessing.
The bed squeaks if you glance its way. The breakfast is great if all you want is a bowl of rice crispis or a bran muffin. The hostess is very pleasant - but doesn't want to be bothered. We were advised to call if we needed anything but though the phone book was present the phone must have gone up the chimney with the tree. No phone makes it impossible to call for a taxi let alone make tour bookings etc. There is nothing to light the kitchen stove with - so buy matches before your arrival.
You don't have to check out because your credit card is charged long before your arrival - just slip those keys through the mail box if you please.
If all you want is a small, private suite just outside the quarter - where no one will bother you, where the bed is old, saggy and squeaky and you can pay a high end B&B place with nary the second B- this is THE place for you!

We are very sorry that this guest’s stay did not meet expectations. Upon receipt of this information, we checked the beds and asked guests for feedback, but could not find any squeaking--the beds are in excellent condition. There is also daily maid service, even throughout the holidays. We provide a continental breakfast which consists of fresh croissants, bran muffins, assorted cereals, regular and decaffeinated coffee, assorted teas, milk and juice. Breakfast is replenished daily. There are no phones in the rooms, but phone books are provided for general information on restaurants and attractions. Most guests do carry cell phones and find it useful to have a phone book. Guests are also encouraged to request use of the house phone at any time. And we are happy to make restaurant reservations when desired. We offer complimentary high-speed wireless internet access in every room for business travelers or guests with wireless computers. This guest mentioned that he couldn’t find matches to light the stove. The stove does not require matches because it has an electric pilot, and it is in excellent working order. There is also a microwave oven in every room. Standard payment procedure is for a guest’s credit card to be charged 30 days prior to arrival, which is common for bed and breakfasts, and there is automatic checkout for the convenience of our guests. We have a very high volume of repeat visitors and satisfied guests, and receive many wonderful reviews, which can be found in our guest books located inside the rooms. Excerpts can be found on our website.
