The hotel setting is New Orleans style with wrought iron, courtyard, etc. You can tell it used to be a really good place but it needs a little TLC now. On the other hand, price was good, $80 a night with our Choice Group connection and AAA discount. For this area, that is a good deal. It is a distance from French Quarter, etc. but streetcars run right in front of hotel and for $3.00 you can ride all day. Beds were very comfy and rooms had a flat screen TV, frig, and microwave. Shower/ bathtub should be replaced in my opinion. Also, hard to adjust water, got very hot quickly so beware! Sink faucets seemed to always have warm or hot water. Door was hard to open and safe was so dirty with handprints I was not about to use it. Staff was very nice and helpful. Breakfast was fine. I hope they are able to put some money into this place and bring back the New Orleans place.

This is not a typical Quality Inn however it's run by this chain now. The hotel is terribly nice as it is consisted of several converted historical buildings in downtown NO.
There is one issue to consider before booking. Normally Quality Inns come with free parking for their guests. But this one charges $17+tax per day for 1 place. The guest becomes aware of this small circumstance only when charged for entire stay on check-out because nobody warns about it on check-in.

The photos of the hotel are deceiving. Located in between a Wendy's fast food joint that smells bad both inside and out, and a bar/ restaurant where unfriendly looking characters sometimes gather in the evening: "oh my God, we're in the ghetto," exclaimed a newly arrived guest. Although I wouldn't go that far.

The rooms themselves aren't so bad, although a bit musty smelling; but if you're not looking for absolute luxury, they are clean enough. During our four night stay, however, room service came only once. We emptied our own garbage cans, and our towels and bed linen went unchanged. The cable TV reception reminded me of the days when antennas were needed for a clear picture. The first floor vending machine (right outside our room) took without giving, and the other one, also located on the first floor, gave us potato chips that were stale; we also bought air freshener for our room. Otherwise, it was great!

I've traveled to New Orleans many times and stayed in dozens of hotels. I think this one is my favorite. This hotel is quite large, although you would never know it. There are several buildings, but each has its own courtyard. The rooms are comfortable, the staff are efficient and pleasant and a decent breakfast is included. The price is reasonable as well. In addition to all this, the St Charles streetcar stop is across the street from the hotel. Canal St and the French Quarter is about a mile from the hotel, but if you don't feel like walking, the streetcar stops every 5-10 minutes. It doesn't get much better than this.

We got a great rate directly from Choice Hotels; felt we got a very good deal. Front desk personnel were friendly and helpful. The room was cute, but (at least ours) was not the charming rooms full of character mostly featured on their site. I think those were the more expensive suites; ours was a pretty standard room with a little New Orleans flair. Absolutely appreciated having plenty of towels and washcloths. The beds were very comfortable. Housekeeping was very good with the exception of one day they only exchanged towels due to the tropical storm, but that was no big deal. The hotel complex itself is very unique. I loved the older buildings on the property and seeing the photos in the breakfast area. There is a nice patio area we were unable to enjoy due to the rain, but it would be a great space in more enjoyable weather. The complimentary breakfast was on the better side, especially during the weekend. The breakfast area itself is in one of the older buildings and is full of character. We were okay with the location. I can see how one might find it beneficial to be more in the French Quarter area but we also went to the Garden District and a few other area and found it to be centrally located. There are several good restaurants and a nice tavern as well as a Walgreen's in a five-block area. The street car runs right in front of the hotel, but we really could never figure out the schedule, nor was there a covered waiting area, so it didn't work out too well for us in the pouring rain. It quit running early in our trip anyway due to the storm. We took cabs or walked mostly. Just a few cons I feel I should mention: The hotel has older doors in the lobby and I found it awkward to try to get in and out of them with luggage. I know they're probably not trying to alter the historic aspects of the building, but maybe something could be done to make it a little easier to get in and out. Our door to our room was also very tight and required us to "put a shoulder into it" to open every time. Our shower curtain rod was damaged and didn't allow the shower curtain to close correctly, so we got the floor soaked with every shower. But other than those small things I was satisfied and would definitely return!

Dropping my freshman off at Tulane, I was "stranded" in New Orleans because of Hurricane Irene - the hotel was very accommodating to provide the extra night without moving my room. Because I arrived rather early initially, the only room ready was up on the third flor of the "historical" building - (read: old) in the attic. The rooms was functional, shower pressure was horrible, and the bathroom was old, toilet paper holder knocked off the wall...it just needs a bit of TLC, with the peeling wall paper, etc. The a/c worked but you couldn't heat yourself think. The service was pleasant, guards on duty, so you felt relatively safe. $17 per day to park is a bit much, but perhaps the locked facility is necessary in this neighborhood. The hotel is attached to a great Tapa restaurant , "Santa Fe" with the most gracious owners Charlotte, and her husband - ate there twice, even though Emeril's Delmonico was right across the street. All in all it was "okay" and would probably stay there again, given it's "warts" because, I would know enough to ask for a building with an elevator, instead of the three floor walk -up, and the location is actually very good. The value isn't bad for New Orleans.
