Situated in a quieter part of the French quarter this Italian is a real gem. We enjoyed huge starters although it seemed a little strange to serve a meat antipasti with nothing else, no bread or garnish or pickles. The main courses were great although my husband's lasagna was a little different he was happy. My main issue is that the table was far too small for 4 of us with water and wine it seemed a recipe for disaster to the point that we had to put our glasses somewhere else while sharing our anitpasti. It is a tiny restaurant but this seemed unnecessarily cramped

I have eaten at a lot of Italian restaurants in my life, all over NYC & the surrounding areas, as well as on my travels... the Italian Barrel takes the cake. During a week of creole/Cajun/southern/seafood dining we figured we would give this Italian joint a shot, to take a break from the other cuisines. Best. Decision. Ever. The staff, ambiance, wine, food... all were amazing. Great wine list, great pasta dishes... EVERYTHING was amazing. If you are looking for a nice quiet Italian meal in the French Quarter do not hesitate to give this place a try, you will be pleasantly surprised.

The Italian Barrel, despite the slightly twee name, is a seriously Italian proposition, with excellent food. We found this be accident, wondering on the edge of the French Quarter, looking for a light/quick lunch. But after scanning the menu and eyeballing some of the dishes being served we decided to make a main meal of it. We were not disappointed; the food was deliciously prepared and served. We loved it so much that we immediately booked for dinner the next evening.

A wide selection of dishes, and a good wine list make this a destination for lovers of fine Italian.

The worst dining experience ever. Please read all the bad reviews as they are correct. I wish I had. I do not know how this restaurant has the rating it does. Extremely overpriced for the quality.

We had a FAR better experience at Del Monico’s and spent less $ there. We waited for 1.5 hours for our appetizers to come out and consumed a full bottle of wine between the two of us before our dinner arrived. Like others mentioned, they did not leave the bottle at our table, odd. Our waiter never once mentioned there would be a delay in receiving our food. Finally, the manager came out and apologized for the delay. She didn't offer anything for our troubles except for excuses. Their issue is they booked too many tables at the same time and something about only having 8 burners (one of the diners at our table is an exec chef and scoffed at how this was all mismanaged on their end). That sounds like poor management and lack of restaurant experience. The customers should not suffer for that. One of the people at our table said they should at least offer us dessert and the manager SNIPPED “I was going to do that anyway”. Really? Because she never once mentioned it to us until we asked. We finally got our food the portions were TINY. The pasta dishes ($18) was the smallest I had ever seen and my fish was not cooked properly. The salad was a handful for greens for $12-$15!?!? We had no one to mention this too as we were avoided the rest of the night. We declined the free dessert offer as we had spent enough time there and just wanted to get on with our evening and meet up with the rest of the group. We got the bill and we were floored at the $60 auto gratuity and they only comped the $18 pasta dish that was for the person at our table whose birthday it was. We asked for the manager and she was not willing to do anything for our trouble except that. We spent $400 between the 6 of us and that included the $18 pasta deduction. All she did was talk back to us instead of come up with any solutions. Deplorable. I would rather have eaten at Popeyes. Please, go spend your money at Del Monico's. It is the best establishment down there and Emeril gives back to the community, unlike this horrible place that is terribly mismanaged.
