I love the architecture, the coffee shops, the quiet and charm of this neighborhood, and the proximity to the French Quarter. Really enjoyed staying here.

We walked east of the French Quarter and came upon this neighborhood. Great place for hipsters. Aldofo's restaurant was a pleasant find, located above The Apple Barrel on Frenchman street. Great place for people watching and fewer tourists.

This is the place I go to hear music in New Orleans. The French Quarter has its charms, but I love this place for music and there are some good restaurants in the area too.

This is a beautiful, quiet neighborhood with easy access to the interstate but away from the noise of the Quarter. We walked every day through Frenchmen Street and felt totally safe going to the main attractions on foot. We found a quaint neighborhood bar, deli and daiquiri place :)
Do be aware that the side streets can be a bit deserted after dark, but we always felt safe. Washington Park is beautiful!

Very close to the touristy area of the French Quarter and Frenchman Street, but far enough away to be pretty quiet. A good mix of historic architecture, cafés and restaurants, and gritty urban cityscape. (The latter point, understandably, is not for every vacationer. But the juxtaposition of different cultures and textures is what makes New Orleans New Orleans; so I love it!) Also, short biking distance to other great parts of the city. Definitely an area I'd consider living in, and visiting again.
