We stayed here 2 nights for an event at the newly renovated (amazing) Saenger Theatre and it was perfect. We were looking for someplace within walking distance of the theater and the French Quarter and this fit the bill perfectly. The hotel is literally around the corner from The Saenger, so a 2-3 minute walk is no big deal in almost any weather. It is just 2-3 block off Bourbon street, again, no problem whatever the weather.
The lobby is on the second floor, which is accessed by an elevator that is separate from the ones going up to the guest rooms. Some reviewers found this annoying, but we felt as though it was a judicious extra measure of security that keeps non-guests from wandering in off the streets.
We stayed in a king suite and have never been in a hotel room this big in New Orleans before. I read other reviews which complained about the sliding, barn style doors, but we actually really liked them. They slide very easily, but do make a bit of rumble, so could disturb a light sleeper. We did not find them a problem, at all. Overall, the room was very quiet and comfortable. The large, upscale mini-fridge, wet bar, 2 flat screen TV's, alarm clock with iPod docking station and ample outlets were nice amenities. We also had an in-room safe, though the staff told me these are not available in all rooms - just the king suites. They do, apparently have safe deposit boxes at the front desk, if needed.
As others have mentioned, there is no bathtub, but the shower is very roomy and the water pressure is perfect. The hotel was impeccably clean. We would have enjoyed having a bar in the lobby in which to hang out, but found a nice one just across the street at the Hyatt. The hotel does serve cocktails for a few hours in the evenings, though we missed that time frame both nights, so cannot really comment. The lobby area for the bistro/bar is stylish and pleasant with lots of tables/couches/booths with TV's. There are computers for guest use and a large touch screen TV with an interactive map of the city and weather information.
The valet parking is prompt and Jay was very pleasant. The charge of $38/day is steep, but your car is just across the street in a well lit garage. After we sent our car away, Jay told us there was self parking available for $20 in the same garage, so that might be worth investigating...
All in all, this was a very nice place to stay for any downtown or French quarter activities in New Orleans. It is not the most economical option, but we did not feel the price was excessive for the quality of the accommodations. We would definitely stay here again.
