My friends and I stayed at the Hyatt Regency for Jazz Fest, really because it was the cheapest available (still not that cheap). I'd say the stay was ok.

My main gripe was that there was some disconnect with the functionality of the hotel. Here's why:
-The elevators: You have to take two escalators to get to the elevators. And just because the elevator you take goes to your room, doesn't mean it goes anywhere else that's useful (ie the gym). I was constantly taking the elevator to the third floor then getting on a different set of elevators and such. So time consuming when you wait for up to five minutes for an elevator.
-There is no signage of the hours of the restaurants. We were hoping to eat at the pool on the fifth floor but we had to go to the third floor bar to find out that the pool restaurant is only sporadically open, depending on the staff.
-After staying one of our four nights we noticed mold on the ceiling by the air conditioner. We spoke with the front desk before leaving for the day and she said they would inspect the situation while we were out. When we returned, a different front desk agent could not find any record of us reporting the mold. Luckily she was extremely helpful and moved us to a new room right away, while giving us some room service credit and free wifi (don't even get me started that you have to pay for wifi in the first place).
-We called housekeeping to get more towels (they only gave us three for four people) and to get more tea as it had not been refilled for the day. Instead of one person coming up giving us both the towels and the tea, we got one lady bringing towels, then another bringing more towels and tea and then another bringing tea. Obviously there is a huge disconnect in communication.
-Concierge: rather rude. I asked for directions to Jazz Fest using the streetcar and was told in a demeaning way that it was the most inefficient way to get to Jazz Fest. I was so thrown off by his demeanor that I took the map and walked away.
-Rooms are rather small. Might not matter to some but for four people in a room, there was almost no place to put your luggage without tripping over it.
-If you call any department at all, it will ring and ring and ring. Plan on waiting at least two minutes before someone answers.
-Room service is NOT 24 hours. I was shocked by this. I thought the whole point of room service was to be open any time. Totally put a damper on the day when we spent 20 minutes ordering through the flipping TV and then when doing the checkout realizing they were closed.
-The room had random bits of dirtiness. We found foreign hairs in the shower and brown spots on the towels. Otherwise very clean.
-Water pressure and plumbing could use some work. The water pressure was so low that we couldn't tell if we washed the shampoo out. The toilet had to have water put in it several times for it to be flushed.
-The day of checkout, housekeeping woke us up at 9am for no apparent reason. They just said "OH!" and walked away. We requested late checkout...

The good stuff (yes there's some):
-Food was yummy and had a big spread, even for me, the vegetarian
-Front desk agent Alexis was awesome and helpful
-The view of New Orleans was fun to look over
-There is a cab stand right out front
-Beds are comfortable
-If you're used to streetcars in NOLA, there is a stop right out front
-The decor of the hotel is modern and beautiful
-Beautiful outdoor pool
-Toiletries provided were good quality
-Gym was GORGEOUS. Better than most membership gyms. And it has an awesome view.
-Ice machine was on the floor

I upgraded to a club room on the 27th floor and didn't regret it. The room was a good size(king room) with a nice chaise lounge. The overall feel of the hotel was classy and contemporary. I had read a lot of the reviews on this hotels and I read, too big, lousy customer service, room issues etc. This hotel is by no means too big, it is a large hotel, imagine that, I have to walk a bit... It is a pleasant walk! I had great customer service and my room was always clean and well cleaned every day. I would come back to this hotel! Spend a bit more for the club room if you can, the club room on the 32 floor offers snacks, water, juice and pretty passable espresso. The honor bar lets you poor as big a drink as you want for a good price. Well worth it...

PROS: Top notch accommodations. Valet parking, expedited kiosk check-in/out, courteous concierge/bell service, expansive gorgeous lobby, soft music to welcome you as you enter your room, modern technology throughout the hotel including interactive menus, plush seating in the sports lounge, the list goes on... we were amazed and delighted at every turn.

CON: charge for parking - but so do all the other hotels in the area

Who in the world designed the layout of this place? How do you get from the 1st, to the 2nd, to the 3rd floor (which you must apparently get to, to get to the elevator which will take you to your room floor). And why, why, when this hotel has conferences that compel several thousand people to attend, does the Starbucks have only 3 cash registers? Honestly, waiting in line for coffee was the most maddening, the most ridiculous 30 minutes I've ever spent. The location is okay; you can walk to French Quarter, trolley, etc., but it's a business district without a freaking coffee shop to be had... except for the ludicrous Starbucks with 3 cash registers...

We stayed two nights at the Hyatt Regency-New Orleans by the Superdome. When we phoned for reservations we were asked if we wanted a town view or a Superdome view. We chose the latter. Big mistake.

The first night was fine. Although our room was very small, it was clean and comfortable--and very quiet.

The second night was totally different. We had noticed the day before when we arrived in the room that a stage had been erected next to the Superdome. When we returned from sightseeing in the late afternoon the second day, there were musicians doing a "sound check." It was loud enough then. (We couldn't see the front of the stage, only the back and part of the side.) We left for dinner. When we returned around 10pm, there was a very noisy concert in progress. We phoned the front desk to see what was going on and were told it was some pop princess popular with the female teeny-bopper set. (You know the type--talentless and forgettable who will be a nobody next year.) The bass reverberated our windows and we could hear the "fans" shrieking--and we were on the 32nd floor! We were leaving at 6:30a and had a long drive ahead of us, so this is the last thing we needed or wanted. The racket lasted until between 12:30a and 1a.

The front desk claimed that they "didn't know" this concert was happening and that "the Superdome didn't notify us." Well, Hyatt, you are supposed to be a top-notch chain! Have you ever heard of being pro-active? You mean to tell us that someone on your staff isn't assigned the task of checking the Superdome website or phoning the Superdome to see what events they have scheduled? That way, the hundreds of folks staying on that side of your hotel can be told beforehand, so they can choose a room on the other side of the hotel. Or are you so greedy that you just want to fill up those rooms and don't give a hoot about the comfort of your guests? Methinks it is the latter.

Couple that with the inconvenient elevator set-up--where guests have to take escalators to the third floor, walk about a half-block to the elevators, and use their room key to access an elevator to their floor, and we won't be staying at this Hyatt again. They claim it is for guest security. But anyone can go up the escalators and stand there until someone with a key uses the elevator and just get in the elevator with them. What they really set this up for was so the guests (ones like us who are perfectly capable of handling their own luggage) cannot take their luggage to the room themselves. They have to use the valet service to get their luggage to the room--the valets are the only ones who can use a staff-only elevator to that third floor. This way, the valets get tipped for sure. Cheesy.

Oh--one more thing--the lobby's air-conditioning was set on "frigid" and the musak volume there tuned to "head-splitting."

Bottom line--Be sure and request a city view room. That way you might be able to sleep.

Room Tip: Again--chose a room on the city side. Avoid the Superdome side at all costs!

Daymond Sams was a server at our CDL conference and he was outstanding in service and personality. He showed true southern hospitality with a great smile! Daymond was more then willing to serve several of us drinks after all of the beverages were put away. Numerous people had the same great comments about him:) He takes pride in his job and it shows.

This hotel was huge. Right down street from French quarter. Right next door to superdome. We stayed for 2 nights. Right away we had to call service because our toilet was plugged from previous guests. Then our air conditioning stopped working BOTH nights. Service had to come twice for that. They said they are in process of upgrading thermostats. But they should have been working for us. Rooms were comfortable. Beds were very comfortable. Many restaurants in hotel but very expensive. Check in and check out were uneventful. Always someone around to help with luggage or to get taxi. I would stay again but hopefully with no problems as noted above
