Let me begin by saying this was not my first choice in hotels, but I chose it as my back-up given it’s under the Marriott umbrella.
Frankly, I can’t say it was bad because it wasn’t. I will say service was inconsistent. The gentleman who checked us in was very helpful and welcoming in his demeanor. The young lady who checked us out was helpful as well. However, some of the other front desk employees seemed cold and robotic.
My only genuine complaint is about the bar personnel and their execution of customer service. We visited the bar on night 1, and moved from sitting at the bar to playing a round of pool. When we moved, we told the bartender where we were going and she acknowledged; she even brought us more waters and an additional beer. Near closing time, she alerted us she was leaving and that the bartender inside could help us close our bill when we were ready. When we were ready, the remaining bartender seemed bothered and took a bit to print the receipt. He told us our tab was closed and that since the other bartender “did not know where [we] went, she added an automatic 20%” gratuity. I could care less that a tip was added, but I certainly did not appreciate the lack of communication between the two bartenders. Additionally, I didn’t think it was polite the way the closing bartender handled the manner.
Despite the bar service, I was satisfied with my stay here. There are probably better hotels to select, but this is still a good one to choose if you’re going to stay in the Quarter.
