“Terrible service, much better alternatives in New Orleans for this price”
Reviewed 26 July 2012

The hotel itself is gorgeous. The lobby is striking. Clearly, no expense was spared.

But the staff have not been trained. There seemed to be no one in charge and only a handful of people on-site. Although the hotel was nearly empty, we were placed in a room overlooking major street construction - and a jackhammer woke us up at 7am. We finally just gave up and checked out at 8:15am - even though we had left an infant and toddler at home for this romantic overnight trip and hoped to sleep in. Of course the hotel cannot control the noise - but according to the construction workers in the street, they had been hard at work outside the hotel for nearly 10 days... meaning the staff should have known better. When we complained, they offered breakfast - at this point, we were so frustrated we left and told them we would not be eating.

When we arrived, the bar was closed in the middle of the day with no explanation by staff except "it's usually open at 11am, but today it's opening at 5pm." There is no other food or beverage service, not even room service, so this was notable.

It's hard to believe there is NO room service except a very overpriced mini-bar. And the materials in the room are all inaccurate. First, there is no pool and no roof-top bar. Second, the restaurant is not run by the famous chef as touted.

The room was beautiful, but small-ish and nothing to write home about. It certainly does not compare to the Roosevelt, which was also renting rooms for $150/night, the same price as the Saint and just across the street. The best thing that can be said about the rooms is the Niven Morgan bathrobe and bath amenities.

Dear Sir or Madam:

Thank you very much for bringing your experience to our attention. We take all reviews seriously.

I apologize for the noise. The situation was heavy rains forced them to have to redo the sidewalk without our knowledge. They were to have been done several days prior.

I apologize for the confusion in the bar. It is open at 11am and our restaurant is open from 7am - 11pm - 7 days a week. I am not sure why you were told otherwise. Room Service is also 7am - 11pm.
Our chef, Marcus Woodham, is very famous in the city. His creations can be found on nearly 15 menus across the city. He is brilliant.

We are proud of our brand at The Saint and again, I apologize for what you encountered. I assure you, your concerns will be addressed.

We would like to make this up to you. I would like to offer you and a guest, breakfast and lunch in our restaurant. Please email me at michaelb@thesainthotelneworleans.com

Thank you,

We had reservations at the Hilton for a convention, but the Hilton overbooked and moved us here. Being New Orleans natives, we initially were not happy because we usually stay in the heart of the French Quarter. This hotel is next door to the Ritz on Canal St. We were very pleasantly surprised! The lobby is very New York modern, not what you would expect for New Orleans. Yet very exciting for a New Orleans hotel. It has a beautiful restaurant and great bar on opposite sides of the lobby-definitely a great place to have dinner and then drinks and hear some great music! The front desk and bar staff were very accommodating and welcoming. We did not eat at the restaurant but are planning a return trip with a group for an opportunity to sit at the gorgeous 20 seat table in the front window showcasing world famous Canal St. What a great evening to have dinner there and walk across the lobby to their great bar! By the way, the rooms were very nice!

We got the room through a Priceline deal, so we definitely got a good price. BUT I expected more from a hotel that Priceline considered 4 star worthy. First, let me say that the rooftop pool and bar do NOT exist yet. They are planned for the future, but from speaking to some of the employees, I could not get any idea of when they might be expected to open. I can't comment on the hotel bars and restaurant since we did not use them. The location was excellent for access to the French Quarter (esp. Bourbon St.) but along with that, you get a lot of noise. Ambulance/police sirens went off outside of our window constantly. Our room was only on the 4th floor, so maybe one of the higher up rooms wouldn't have had so much noise trouble. As for the room, the safe never worked and lots of small things were missing (a pen, a room service menu, a privacy hang tag for the door knob). I agree with another reviewer that housekeeping did service the room much later than I was used to and getting enough towels could be a problem. I was actually told at one point that they were out of clean washclothes when I asked for new one. Parking was an issue. For the first two nights, we used the Valet Parking service ($38/day +$3.50 tax/day). It's slow to get your car (some waited over 1 hour during check out time) since the hotel does not have on site parking but uses a garage down across Canal street (who only charges $15/day for parking). There are cheaper parking options all within 1 block or so of the hotel that we took advantage of for the remainder of our stay. Overall, the hotel wasn't bad but it definitely was not up to par with my expectations.

Room Tip: Try for a room higher up or interior (if you don't care about a window) to get away from some of...

We found this hotel to be centrally located. We asked two times for change, and the hotel could not provide any. I thought this was very inconvenient especially since we were in a big city, and most hotels have change readily available. Pros: location, nice ambience, drinks and dining on sight, comfortable bedding, nice bathrooms. Cons: No room safe, small rooms, housekeeping shows up late in the day, limited supplies in bathroom, costs $38.00 per day to park your car, cable and internet went out last evening we were there, in room coffee maker did not work. With the exception of one or two staff members, no one went out of their way for you.

The lobby of The Saint is very well done, front desk staff was friendly, but that is where the positive experience of this hotel stopped. When we got off the elevator on our floor, there were incense sticks (not a great scent) on a table near the elevator. Then we got to our room. Room was small, decor was decently modern, (stain on carpet near bed) Bathroom was clean enough, but over the 4 days we were there, we sporadically got the correct number of towels and washcloths to accomodate 2 people (also - one day we only got one washcloth and that had lipstick stains on it!!) Walls are paper thin----we could hear EVERYTHING going on in the rooms next to us. Car valet service was very slow and had to get both keys reprogrammed after being out all day. Although the location was great - we will not be staying here ever again, nor recommending it. Hard to believe this is in the Marriott family of properties.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.

I have been traveling to NOLA for business every 6 weeks for the past 3 years and have stayed at every Marriott branded hotel in the downtown/french quarter area so I was excited to try a new option. The Saint is a boutique hotel with a heaven/hell theme going on with the decor. The lobby is beautiful and the service I received was top-notch from the bellman/valet/front desk and everyone that works there. The guestroom hallways have this purple-hazy lighting thing going on. Not a fan, but again, if I was stumbling in from burbon street on vacay I might think it was cool. The room was a good size, small bathroom with no bathtub and no lotion?! Like ever? I left a note for the maid to bring some and I didn't get it which leads me to believe that it isn't provided. There is a pod coffee machine in the room but no where in the hotel to grab a cup unless you sit down to breakfast. Small workout room and no pool. A boutique hotel with a lobby like that MUST have an outdoor pool/cabana thing going on (like the W)...maybe it's in the works? The Saint has potential, they need to work on a few of the small things that make me return to Marriott brands for both business and leisure travel before I would consider returning.

Although the location of the hotel was amazing, the inability to regulate the temperature in the room made the stay absolutely miserable. We were forced to get up multiple times during the night to either turn off or on the air conditioning. A temperature was impossible to find that wouldn't make the room too hot or too cold. There was no "auto" setting so the fan ran constantly. I agree with the other posters that the smell in the hallways was overwhelming and the lack of security was very concerning. There was no information readily available anywhere in the hotel about things to do during your visit. I will be staying somewhere else during our next visit.
