“Hidden Treasure in New Orleans”
Reviewed 12 September 2009

We totally enjoyed our stay at the Balcony Guest House Bed & Breakfast. Their entire staff was just great...right there when we needed anything. The room was adorable, clean and comfortable and I loved being able to go out to the balcony in the evening. During our stay, we were lucky enough that the weather was cool enough to be able sit outside in the evening and enjoy the neighborhood. I would not hesitate for a moment to stay there again. Oh, and the cafe was nice too. We had dinner the evening we arrived...the food was great. There was not a lot to choose from during the Jazz Festival and we really got lucky when we found this little establisment. I have told so many people about this little B&B, it would be our first choice when we go to New Orleans again!

The Balcony Guesthouse was a great gift on my visit to New Orleans. I happened to stumble upon it by accident, and never wanted to leave again. The room, with wooden floors, bed and closets is very tasteful, quiet, honest and clean, with a balcony surrounding the house that is perfect to hang out on. The people that work at the place are a very cool bunch indeed. Personal, interested but not crowding and the
restaurant/bar is great to meet people or eat good (and healthy!) food.
The neighborhood is funky, with an alternative feel to it. I, being a solo female traveler, felt safe there. And gorgeous houses too!

We were so please with this little B&B. It is just a few blocks from the french quarter and there is parking on the street. The owner was very friendly and so was the staff. The cafe downstairs made it very convient for a snack, lunch, or dinner. It's not fancy, but very quaint. We will defienently go back!

Whenever traveling to New Orleans, the Marigny is one the greatest neighborhood in which to be. The Balcony Guest House is perfectly located, close to Mimi's and the Cake Shop and a short walk to the Quarter. It's quiet, clean and well-kept with wonderful, hospitable owners.

The service we experienced at the Balcony Guest House can best be described as accommodating. Our plans made it so that we had to check in late at night and check out early in the morning. The keypad on the outer door made it very easy to for the staff to leave our keys in our room before our arrival, and for us to leave the keys in the room when we left.

The room was lovely! It was nicely furnished and decorated, and the locks on the tops and bottoms of the french doors made us feel very secure. The balcony access from Room 1 was very nice, though we admittedly didn't spend as much time at the Guest House itself as we did enjoying the city. The bathroom was cozy (a bit small) but clean and with nice fixtures. The room had a great combination of original features and modern amenities.

The location, labeled on the website as 6 blocks from the French Quarter, was not a bad distance from all the things we came to see in New Orleans. We did drive to and from the French Quarter, as the "6 blocks" must refer to the very Eastern edge of the French Quarter. Still, only about a two to three minute drive to Bourbon Street. As I mentioned, we checked in late at night, and we did have some reservations about the safety in some of the neighboring area. We were able to find a parking space on the street (only street parking available) right in front of the outer door, though, and safety was not an issue. If you're skittish about "iffy" neighborhoods at night, you may feel more comfortable checking in while it's still daylight - but don't let it keep you from staying here!

Best and worst of our stay: We most enjoyed the atmosphere in the corridor area and in our room. The room was completely relaxing, exactly what we had hoped for on a nice anniversary weekend away. We least enjoyed the breakfast we received and the atmosphere in the restaurant below the Guest House. Again, the staff was nothing but accommodating, but the restaurant was not open during the listed hours (said to be open for breakfast 9-11am, not open until around 9:10am, and the kitchen didn't start opening until about 9:20am - made us get a later start than we had planned). There was no breakfast menu, and even though the cook made us some good french toast, that's about all there was to it. A staff member swatted at flies around the dining room throughout our breakfast, apologizing and saying "they get in through cracks in the walls overnight."

Even without top-notch breakfast to go along with the relaxing bed, we'd stay here again if we return to New Orleans. The room by itself was worth the price. PS - We went elsewhere for breakfast after our first day.

We discovered Schiro's after our rental "camp" on Ponchartrain blew away in Katrina. We visit N.O. (from Michigan) yearly for Jazz Fest, and a few times in between. Service is good, ask and receive. Rooms are all different, no cookie cutter, several open directly to the balcony, otherwise balc. access is easy down hall. Could skip Jazz Fest and still have a great time at Schiro's in bar/restaurant and fantastic people watching from the wrap around balcony. Perfect location not in chaos of Quarter but nearby and nice neighborhood. The owners and great staff (no turnover) know us,remember us and are now our friends. Where else can you get a room, bar, restaurant, laundromat, groceries, even video poker if you want it. And THE FOOD IS VERY GOOD!

This is really a unique guest house.
where else can you find a grocery store, bar, restaurant, all with a guest house on the second floor.
I have stayed over 12 time since the hurricane and have never had a bad experience.
It is a quiet place, the staff is friendly.
If i've needed something or the room needs attention, i just asked and when i get back, its done.
Sitting on the balcony watching the neighborhood in the late afternoon, is a great way to end your work day.
Dinner specials and friendly conversation at the bar are a great way to start your night.
I like to walk and so its not far to the FQ, but i understand why people say take a cab.
I have stayed here everytime for work except once, (when my boss wanted to be on a Bourbon street balcony. )
If you're expecting daily linen changes and cookie cutter room / service, this is not the place.
If you're expecting a place, out of the way and unpretentious, and fun: this is it.
