“Felt like Scarlett”
Reviewed 24 April 2014

Recently spent the weekend in New Orleans and I would highly recommend this hotel. My husband and I awoke to the smell of fresh coffee and a delicious breakfast. The hotel's staff is friendly and efficient. The rooms are simply beautiful, with comfortable beds, upscale linens, antique furniture, and all the modern amenities. Our room had a very beautiful old fashion chandelier that gave the room the feel of french colonial Louisiana. French doors lead out to the balconies overlooking a courtyard with sparkling fountains and fragrant roses. It is conveniently located near Bourbon Street and close to some of the best restaurants in the French Quarter. Been to New Orleans many times, and this was by far our best hotel experience.

New Orleans 3rd stop across the USA.

Had such high expectations for this Hotel, based on Internet research and also the price.

Great position and very friendly staff but ultimately did not feel the Hotel merits the price we paid.

We stayed in the cottage, and though it was nice,it needs a little TLC. Also there were renovations of sorts happening so our upper balcony views were not that pleasant!

Noise from the neighboring Bourbon St is very loud and any guests should be aware this can continue until the early hours!!

Advertises as a B&B but breakfast is DIY coffee, tea, bread and a very limited selection of pastries which you can then either take back to your room or eat in the small parlor.

All in all this was to be a highlight for our trip but ended up falling well below the mark.

This hotel is absolutely lovely. Keep in mind that it is a small, historic hotel, and does not have all of the amenities of a large hotel (exercise room, restaurant, etc), if that's what you are after. But if you want a personal, unique experience for your stay, in a hotel that is alive with history, then this is the hotel to choose. I was here for only 2 nights and wish I could have stayed longer. Had a 4-poster, King size bed with full bath and balcony overlooking the courtyard; the room was spacious and cozy at the same time. There was even a voodoo doll on the bed as decoration. There is a "snack room" with free beverages available all the time, and a sweet kitty named Catrina roaming the floors. The staff are warm, helpful, genuine, caring and accommodating people. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in New Orleans any longer.

Room Tip: Courtyard view room (room 4) was lovely. Some Bourbon Street noise but nothing annoying.

My wife and I just spent four nights here and couldn't be more pleased. It is right in the heart of wonderful restaurants, world class shopping and great night life. Simply the best location in the French quarter. The hotel itself is very well restored and tastefully decorated. We had a balcony that overlooked the happening scene outside yet our room was very peaceful and quiet. I am happy to suggest this hotel to anyone traveling to New Orleans.

We have stayed at this hotel a number of times previously ,but January was our first visit under the new ownership. I rated this hotel 4 star, but it is actually between 3 & 4 ,but closer to 4 .
This hotel is not plush & not everything works.....the rooms need to be updated & repaire in order To qualify as 4 star . The hotel has ambiance , a great location , & superior internal patio.Other than the manager, the staff seems to have had little training dealing with the public. They were not rude just not very helpful. For anyone who has allergies be forwarned a cat has basically free roam of the Inn; I am somewhat allergic & only had a small problem.Coffee & pastries are provided in the mornings.....about average .
Actually, Hotel Maison de Ville is a B&B rather than a hotel.

We have stayed here twice before and have liked it more each time - centrally located in the French Quarter - just far enough from Bourbon to be a quiet retreat. Staff is very accommodating. Will definitely stay here again next time we come to NOLA

I recently stayed here for a small group birthday. It was my first time to NoLo.
I am so excited by this old world set up. It is off bourbon street so it isn't so crowded. The staff especially Adrianne were very helpful and able to accommodate all of our party and individual needs. No request was out of their comfort zone. Drake the grounds keeper offered to help me set up for the party without any hesitation . He also waited outside for the airport shuttle and took my bags out for me. I loved the at home setting with coffee bar available at all times.
If you are looking for an authentic experience in the French quarter, This is it!
We are already planning our return. Also we went in December so the decorations were beautiful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the courtyard.if the weather is nice you can leave the door open! The suite is...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Maison de Ville, whose name in French means “Town House”, was just that. A two- storied dwelling rebuilt by Jean Baptista Lilie Sarpy around 1800 after the second disastrous fire.Across the picturesque courtyard with its cast-iron three-tiered fountain are two additional buildings. The historic former slave quarters are believed to have been constructed as early as 1762 and are one of the oldest structures in the State. Also off the courtyard is the old carriage house, now a charming two-story suite. An early resident of the home was Antoine Amede Peychaud, an apothecary who developed a concoction of bitters and brandy, known as the Sazerac. No doubt Peychaud’s circle of friends and patients widened as the popularity and fame of this first “cocktail” spread. In many Creole homes of the time the first floor was used for commercial purposes, as a store or office, but we know that Peychaud maintained his pharmacy on nearby Royal Street. Today, Peychaud’s bitters are still used to make the official cocktail of the State of Louisiana- the Sazerac. Before he purchased his own house in the French Quarter Tennessee Williams often stayed in room number 9, where he completed “A Streetcar Named Desire” and drank Sazeracs in the hotel courtyard. The room opens onto the patio, and much of Dick Cavett’s 1974 interview with Williams was filmed there, surrounded by the lush semi-tropical greenery and flowers the playwright enjoyed.Among the contemporary guests of note at the hotel: Elizabeth Taylor, Dan Akroyd, Robert Redford, Michael Jackson, Julia Roberts and many others.Hotel Maison de Ville is proud to be part of New Orleans’ historic past and present. Our buildings are over two and a half centuries old. Our endeavors of maintenance and upkeep are focused on keeping them in their original condition as much as ‘historically possible’. ... more   less
