“Not your mamma's Italian!”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

This is a first rate restaurant. The chef was clsssically trained and is in the serving area most nights, at least when traffic allows. He will make almost any dish that you ask for, and is most gracious. He truly loves what he does. The staff is friendly and very good at making customers happy. Food is imaginative and always served at the proper temperature. Some of his menu items that stand out are the green tomatoe stack with shrimp and crawfish (in season), Eggplant Locicero-Eggplant stack with Louisiana shrimp with vodka cream sauce with dill, Oysters Giovanni-Fried oysters on stained glass, which is five sauces decorated in a mosaic pattern,Caprese salad, Pasta with four sauces and chicken, veal, or eggplant, and duck done two ways: Half duck roasted, and marinated breast with a mushroom tasso cream. You can't go wrong. I have never made it to the desert menu. Apps, salad, and entree do me in. Portions are large. Prices are moderate for the quality of ingredients and care taken in cooking.
Final note on the food...Giovanni does a "Feed me!" The chef will do as many cources as you wish, but he will pick for you. Your waiter can take guidence as to what you like or have had in the past. Don't be shy about suggesting certain items. Prices vary, and he will follow your lead if it is possible. Have never been disappointed.
Discounted parking on Canal Street at the Marriot.
Call before you makae reservations. Opera singer perform several times per week, and are a reaL treat. Back room seems to be a little quieter. Front room can get a little loud. This restaurant takes very good care of children. Would highly recommend Tim as a server.

“Every dish is wonderful”
Reviewed 12 May 2014

This has to be one of the best restaurant in New Orleans. Of course when you arrive in New Orleans you are looking for that good gumbo and New Orleans flavors, but if you miss this restaurant, you are missing some of the best food in New Orleans. The cannelloni is excellent. Every dish looked wonderful and the aromas that hit your nose as you walk in only serve to wet your appetite. Enjoy! Enjoy!

“Loud, Pricey, Hit and Miss Entrees”
Reviewed 9 May 2014

The chopped salad was good and my wife enjoyed her seafood pasta. My eggplant parm was inedible - after 2 bites of chewy, almost raw eggplant I gave up. The eggplant was served with a side of pasta which I ate and it was fine - nothing special. The service was good although the server never asked why I gave up on the eggplant after 2 bites, only offering to wrap it which I politely declined. We will not return to this tourist priced establishment.

“Nice Place”
Reviewed 25 April 2014

We were here in mid April with friends and it was very nice. We made our reservations in person earlier in the day and were treated very well. We arrived before our friends and had a drink at the bar. Service was quick and friendly. We were seated as soon as our friends arrived. Our friend is Italian and was pleased with our choice of restaurants and with the menu, food, service and general ambiance of the restaurant, as were we. They had live entertainment, an opera singer and piano player, both were excellent. We would return here again and would recommend it to our friends or anyone travelling to NOLA.
