Parking in NOLA is expensive. Right next to our hotel was Cafe Giovanni. Tripadvisor reviews sounded good, so we tried it. Five star all the way...ambience, service and food. With 1500+ restaurants in NOLA, we still decided to return tonight as there were so many things to try on the Menu!

We were in NO on the graduation weekend so all the resteraunts were busy and quite noisy. This place was a great find, the food was excellent and not over priced, drinks and wine were reasonable. A nice touch was two ladies singing light opera, they had to battle a noisy room but it added to an excellent atmosphere. Nice place thoroughly recommend it.

We passed by the restaurant on a Monday evening around 8 pm and saw that it was empty. This gave us some concern as we had decided to go there Tuesday. We went anyway and what a difference a day makes. the place was crowded - leading to a noisy experience.

However, the food and service were generally good and resonably priced. The only oddity was that don't bring bread to the table until you are served the meal.

This is a first rate restaurant. The chef was clsssically trained and is in the serving area most nights, at least when traffic allows. He will make almost any dish that you ask for, and is most gracious. He truly loves what he does. The staff is friendly and very good at making customers happy. Food is imaginative and always served at the proper temperature. Some of his menu items that stand out are the green tomatoe stack with shrimp and crawfish (in season), Eggplant Locicero-Eggplant stack with Louisiana shrimp with vodka cream sauce with dill, Oysters Giovanni-Fried oysters on stained glass, which is five sauces decorated in a mosaic pattern,Caprese salad, Pasta with four sauces and chicken, veal, or eggplant, and duck done two ways: Half duck roasted, and marinated breast with a mushroom tasso cream. You can't go wrong. I have never made it to the desert menu. Apps, salad, and entree do me in. Portions are large. Prices are moderate for the quality of ingredients and care taken in cooking.
Final note on the food...Giovanni does a "Feed me!" The chef will do as many cources as you wish, but he will pick for you. Your waiter can take guidence as to what you like or have had in the past. Don't be shy about suggesting certain items. Prices vary, and he will follow your lead if it is possible. Have never been disappointed.
Discounted parking on Canal Street at the Marriot.
Call before you makae reservations. Opera singer perform several times per week, and are a reaL treat. Back room seems to be a little quieter. Front room can get a little loud. This restaurant takes very good care of children. Would highly recommend Tim as a server.

This has to be one of the best restaurant in New Orleans. Of course when you arrive in New Orleans you are looking for that good gumbo and New Orleans flavors, but if you miss this restaurant, you are missing some of the best food in New Orleans. The cannelloni is excellent. Every dish looked wonderful and the aromas that hit your nose as you walk in only serve to wet your appetite. Enjoy! Enjoy!
