“Nothing special”

Stopped here for lunch yesterday and it was unimpressive. Overdressed salad, poor service, and a short pour martini for our guest. In a city known for its food and alcohol, this was more like a Disney park restaurant experience. Mediocre.

“Disappointed with our return tonight”

I want to preface my review by stating that I have NEVER posted a negative review on this site before because I was taught that if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all but this is an exception to that rule. We have dined at Red Fish on several times during our annual trips to Jazzfest (most recently for lunch on Thursday, May 1) and have always been very pleased but our experience tonight was most disappointing. We were a party of 9 (8 dining and one along for company). We were seated promptly at our reserved time and quickly placed our appetizer orders and drink refills. We also gave our entree orders at that time along with an order of spinach. That's where things started to go wrong. Four of us ordered 2 dozen fresh oysters to share but our server mistakenly brought us BBQ fried oysters along with our companions appetizers. We immediately explained that this was not what we had ordered and he apologized and said he would swap them out for the fresh oysters. Several minutes later he stopped by the table to let us know they were shucking the oysters at that moment. Another few minutes passed and his serving partner came by to clear the appetizer plates from the table and attempted to remove our plates until we advised him that we had not gotten our oysters. Finally we saw 2 dozen oysters headed our way, only to be disappointed when they ended up on the table next to us. After several more minutes we were AGAIN told our oysters were being shucked and were asked if we wanted them to be brought out with the rest of the meals for our table. Wishing to expedite things and avoid further delay for the whole group, we agreed we would take our appetizer at ANY time. Finally a plate containing one dozen oysters was brought to us and we were again told they were shucking our remaining order. When the second dozen was brought to us by a woman who was quite obviously not a server, I politely and quietly asked if she was a manager. She said she was and introduced herself and I proceeded to politely and quietly let her know how disappointed with the service thus far. Rather than apologizing or even acknowledging that we had reason to be dissatisfied,
she instead made excuses for the delay being the result of the server's ordinal error a and stated she had gotten involved to rectify it by bringing us the rest of our original order. Then things went from bad to worse because no sooner had we finished our appetizer when our main courses were served, including one which had not even been ordered. At least 3 of us immediately noticed that our food was not hot and mentioned it to our server. As I attempted to find some of my shrimp and grits that was warmer the plate was literally grabbed out from under me while my fork was still in my hand. It was then immediately replaced by a
new order which coincidentally the " extras dish" originally served to our table. The other two parties also suffered the same fate of having their plates removed while the forks were mid-air and replaced with new orders. Even then, no apology from Holly, who assisted in swapping out the dishes and who was
allegedly the manager. Finally when the three of us made it clear that we had lost our appetites, we boxed up our meals to be taken home by our dining companion who lives locally. The manager advised that our party of 9 would receive 3 desserts on the house, for which we thanked her. When the check came, we we retold several items had been removed and would not be charged. There were only 2 - one dozen oysters and a side order of spinach we had ordered but had not received because as they told us earlier, they had run out of this! Seriously? This counted as an item being removed to compensate us for our poor experience? I think one of the most frustrating things about this entire dining experience was the fact that the manager was at no time apologetic for what had transpired. As a woman with many years of successful business experience ( as well as having been a waitress many years ago) I learned that mistakes happen but when they do, one of the most important things for a manager to do is to accept responsibility when things go wrong and to apologize for the mistakes and try to satisfy the customer so that when they leave your place of business, they are satisfied that their concerns were heard and rectified to the greatest possible extent, but most important of all is that they received an apology because their expectations were not in the first place. The manager of Red Fish Grill missed the boat tonight big time in that regard and it's a shame because we have had many great meals here over the past four years.

“Best catfish we've ever eaten”

And the chocolate bread pudding was amazing. The food was excellent, but we did have to wait for our table, even with a reservation and the acoustics were poor, so it was very noisy. However, the food was so good, we were able to overlook these inconveniences. Good location, right across the street from our hotel (Crown Plaza)

“Great place. Great service. ”

My husband and I were looking for a casual place to dine when we got into NOLA. We found this place on ourTrip Advisor app. We are not really big seafood fans, but we wanted to give it another shot. Our waitress, Rebecca, was fabulous. She recommended some dishes, but initially declined because they sounded too "fishy". She was very convincing however, and boy are we grateful. The barbecue oysters were fabulous! The gumbo was delicious. Our Red fish signature main course was also delightful. Our service was great as well. I guess we ARE seafood fans afterall... Thanks to Rebecca for talking us into trying it all!

“Wonderful Dining”

Great dining in the French quarter at this Brennan Family restaurant. Great atmosphere and vibe. Noise level is high. Lots of old brick. The food was well prepared. We dined on shrimp and grits and grilled red fish which was delicious. A generous portion of a house salad and an equally generous waiter, allowed our group 2 discounted bottles of wine. The wine list had several options for moderately priced wine. The triple chocolate bread pudding is worth a return trip itself. Great service and we shall return.
