Apparently the part of the family that runs this Degas house was not the favorite side. Great stories about them separating a house, but there are NO original paintings in the house (I thought there would be) Also, the sum of the "tour" is a documentary that was made about Degas and then you tour the two houses. Not worth the money at all.

The tour guide was not prepared it seemed. She kept running out of the room and repeating herself and the very long video we watched. I am such a Degas fan and was so looking forward to this tour that I was totally bummed out by the whole thing. She could have made this tour so much better by not showing the video and spinning the whole tale around "her family" gossip. Oh well.... I did get to see the place he visited for 4 months of his life. I do know for a fact that his style changed dramatically when he came back to France and his work was much more appreciated then. I didn't know all of the family drama which was interesting. The price was not worth the tour.
On the UP side of things, the house is worth seeing. You can even book a room there... which would be more fun to just learn about it on your own. Great neighborhood, much to see on the way there.

We took the combination tour and breakfast (first tour of the day). Food was excellent and we got an opportunity to experience the house in a relaxed manner before the tour. Our guide was distantly related to the family and emphasized family relationships of the pictures painted in New Orleans. If you are interested in art it is a must.

An interesting intersection of art and history. The house has interesting architecture and an interesting history. Degas was only here 4 1/2 months but that time marked a sharp change in his style.

Video, house tour and optional neighborhood walking tour took 2 hours. Guide Joanie was very knowledgeable and is a distant Degas relative.

Located about 2 miles outside the Quarter, it is well worth the cab rides. Tours at 10:30 & 1:30.

We took a trolley car to City Park. We walked down Esplanade until we reached the Degas House. We were too late for the group tour. We walked next door and a lovely host named Rachel gave us a special tour. We had a lovely time with Rachel. She was very knowledgable about Edgar Degas and his time in New Orleans. I'd highly recommend this tour!
