Arrived on a Friday afternoon, departed Monday.
First, the pros:
1. Great location convenient to French Quarter, restaurants in Warehouse District, et al.
2. Incredibly helpful, friendly building staff who helped our vacation from being a total disaster (more on that later)
3. Clean apartment. As advertised. Made a nice initial impression.
4. Stay Alfred - prompt, though not particularly helpful, email responses.
1. Bathroom sink wasn't working properly. We contacted Stay Alfred but were told that maintenance staff couldn't be reached so we'd have to wait until Monday. Not great, but tolerable. Not so tolerable was the next problem.
2. Air conditioning conked out Friday evening right before we went out for dinner. New Orleans during the summer is what one would expect - hot and steamy!
We were hoping it was temporary and came bk from dinner to a 79 degree apartment. It was too late to do anything, so we waited till early AM before we headed out for the day to email Stay Alfred noting that the apt was in the high 70's, and could they check on the AC. Received a voicemail that nothing could be done. No apologies. No solutions offered. We returned to a hot steamy apartment and fitful sleep.
Found out from building staff that Stay Alfred evidently owns 4 more units in that building. Wouldn't it have made sense for them to offer one to us?
WE had to contact the company the next day (Sun) and ask about moving into one of the other apartments. Had we not found out about the other apartments ourselves, we would have spent our last night in a steaming hot apt again.
For 2 out of 3 nights without air conditioning, we were offered only an appx 10% credit, told we should have called (and spent even more vacation time on this issue), and that they didn't realize the extent of the problem despite our email after the first night that the temp was in the high 70's, and multiple calls/emails on Sunday. Safe to say high 70's indoors temp in the steamy South during the summer is very few people's idea of comfy.
If everything had worked properly and we hadn't had to contact customer service, my friends and I probably would have been happy. Unfortunately, they didn't. Customer service responses were prompt, but unhelpful. We had to come up with proactive solutions to deal with the issues and bring it up with them. On my final conversation with them, they didn't take responsibility, and tried to put the onus back on us.
I wouldn't take the chance on your vacation that something like this might happen. You don't want to spend time on the phone/emailing on your vacation. It's not worth the hassle. Better to try a different property/company in the CBD/Warehouse District.
I stayed here with friends for 3 nights over a weekend. Awesome location a block from the French Quarter and comfortable walking distance to most anything. However, the air conditioning broke down the first day and Stay Alfred completely fell down on the job. It said no one was available to fix the air conditioning and it was only 2 nights in when we forced the issue that they moved us to another room. This was summer in New Orleans meaning that we spent 2 nights in humid, 80+ degree conditions. Stay Alfred didn't offer to reimburse anything and when we forced the issue again, they reluctantly offered a mere $75 back out of of $600+.
There were several other maintenance problems that were less urgent and also didn't get fixed and Stay Alfred was generally unresponsive and uncooperative over the entire weekend.
The concierge (not associated with Stay Alfred) deserves 5 stars as they made every effort to address the problems and were very accommodating.
