Short review, here. Fun, fun, fun! Great bands, great drinks, and great location n the French Quarter. This is always a stop-in for us. We never miss it. If you love wonderful music, and a good time...it's the Funky Pirate!

We ventured into the Funky Pirate last Friday night to hear Mark Pentone. He did not disappoint. In fact he was terrific. He is a great guitar player, all genres and a really nice guy. My daughter told him about some medical issues I have and he dedicated a heartfelt song to me. The waitress was funny and even though there was quite a crowd, service was prompt, drinks were good and beer was ice cold. When in the French Quarter, don't miss The Funky Pirate and try to go when Mark is there. You will not be disappointed.

The Funky Pirate is one of a very few places on Bourbon St that I actually recommend. It's a standard-sized bar, cozy, plenty of seating, decent drink prices (including hand grenades!) - but most importantly, the music is always great. Big Al Carson and the Blues Masters are the key attraction at the Funky Pirate. In addition to being a crack blues band, Big Al is just a great character on stage. No trip to New Orleans is complete without seeing these guys, who as of now play every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night beginning at 8:30.

Another resident band here that's pretty great is Mark and the Pentones, who focus a little more narrowly on blues/blues rock (whereas Big Al also tosses in soul and R&B classics). The Pentones generally play in the afternoon, as far as I know.

A small bar right on Burbon Street where you can always find a seat and an inexpensive beverage. Unlike some of the other places on Burbon, it's pretty chill and laid back. Big Al Corson plays the blues regularly. The only downside is that it can get uncomfortably smoky in there.

Big Al Carson and the Blues Masters are hands down the BEST live music on Bourbon St!! The drinks are cold and the band is well worth the stop! Al, Harry & Harold are wonderful musicians and they always make the trip a great experience! They are the true meaning of New Orleans culture!
