Frechmen Stree is immediately off Esplanade Avenue (the avenue of the 'alternate' aristocracy of the city once upon a time before Americans abundantly populated St. Charles Ave). This is where commercial businesses such as printer's shops and later AIDS clinics found a place out of the Quarter but close enough to it for far lower rent in the mid- to late-twentieth century - and it's in an area rightly or wrongly called 'the Marigny' where folks not finding their home at a reasonable market price in the Quarter, could approximate that lifestyle and architecture more affordably and still be within walking distance of the heart of the city.

If you are reading this then you must be looking for music as Frenchman Street has the best collection of music clubs in the city and some decent places to dine. I hear about Marc Preuss who has a business that skirts the edges and can get small to medium size groups into these iconic music clubs.. He knows everyone in town. We had balcony seats for Snug Harbor and listened to John Cleary, met John Cleary , it was very cool. Then we walked down to DBA to catch the fabulous John Boutte . Marc made every stop special and man this guy knows where the great food is for decent prices. You want Frenchman call Mrac Preuss at NOLA de TOURS . we had a great night and I forgot to mention the amazing Red Snapper at Alberto's

While having fewer live music venues than Bourbon Street, it has its own character and is well worth visiting if music is what you are after.

If you don't get the right place and restaurant, you can get disappointed. Initially the buzz is exciting, the hoopla , energising but then you seek quality. Snug Harbour is a restaurant that stood out for quality music and decent service. The rest can be pretty ordinary

We had the pleasure of having poems created for my Husband and I by two gentlemen on old typewriters, all the while listening to a 7pc brass brand playing on the street corner. We also purchased some amazing paintings from the local artists. What a place to visit!!!!!!
