The food was good but the make your own cheese plate was my favorite. Pair it with a nice wine, warm night, good friends and some local music. This is a place I plan on returning to again and again.

An interesting concept that should be tried more. This place is located outside of the French Quarter in what some will say The Bywater, or The 9th Ward. Whatever it is, you need a car or a taxi to get there. Bacchanal has a fine wine store where you can choose a bottle or glass of wine (they also have beer and soft drinks), choose cheeses and they will plate it for you, adding wonderful crostini's and olives, then serve it to you at your table. Then you go to the kitchen, where you can order great food, from a wide variety of choices. Bring Cash (although they did have an ATM machine) because they don't take credit cards. Once you've ordered your food, sit and relax with your drinks and soak up the great local live music.

This was the best evening of two visits to New Orleans. It has a rustic and quirky feel. We tried a variety of the food offered and it was all excellent-- even better exquisitely paired with wine recommended by knowledgeable and attentive staff, and still better with a couple of their artisanal cheeses. The torchlit patio gave a great atmosphere for it all, and the music was outstanding. It's a cab to get out there, but great to see another part of town.

This is a combination wine store/bar/restaurant/club. We were there on a beautiful Monday night and the place was hopping. We didn't eat there (went to The Joint nearby -- see other review), but sipping wine on a terrace overlooking the garden of diners while listening to live music made for a terrific experience. I heard the food was great, too, and look forward to going back and trying it.

This is a true hidden gem! One of my friends found it as she was researching wine stores in NOLA online before our trip, but we were unsure, because of the location. On the second day of our visit our waiter at an upscale bar recommended it, so we were sold! The walk from Canal street to Bacchanal took a little over an hour, and passed by a questionable area, so a taxi is recommended. If only New Orleans' taxi service was up to par...
We selected a few great bottles of wine (prices are probably 10% above retail), different cheeses and some food (octopus, mussels). The food was just ok, but redeemed by the delicious cheese board served with olive oil toast.
The best part of the night was the live music - a performance by a Belgian cellist (Helen Gillet) who completely blew us away! Highly, highly recommended!
