I had supper here near the start of a 12-day gastro-vacation to New Orleans. First of all, the Hilton chain hotels were offering "Taste of New Orleans" room rates which would get you 20% off the bill at any John Besh restaurant in the city (except the one at the casino). If you are planning on trying all of them, the savings could equal one or two free nights, depending on the size of your party.
Crawfish were out of season, but a slightly substituted crab bisque was a great start. The baked P&J oysters would also be memorable, especially as a very nice change if you were nearing the end of a visit to the city and growing tired of endless variations of Oysters Rockefeller - I hope it's in his cookbook. Lastly, the jumbo shrimp en cocotte with sausage and grits comes in a small cast iron pan and was is another delicious one I'd like to try at home.
Speaking of which, John Besh's great coffee table cookbooks apparently can be found and purchased in all his restaurants, and are pre-autographed. A smart marketing decision.
Overall, the restaurant is nicely decorated, although the tables are fairly closely spaced. This is also not the place to go for a quiet, intimate dinner: the after-work crowd is fairly loud - not that I minded.
