1870 Banana Courtyard French Quarter / New Orleans B&B

After our cruise out of New Orleans, we stayed at this B&B, as i thought it would be different experience, then staying at the hotels we previously stayed there. WELL, it was different...you had to climb fire escape steps to get to your room & the room was never cleaned. It had a rug that was dirty & the shower stall was about maybe 3 ft.X 3ft....MAYBE! They have so many rules, but brag that if you stay there, they will show you the way to see New Orleans...not the tourist way, which is why I booked the room, but couldn't find anyone to tell me anything about the area! Also, you have to constantly lock & unlock all the doors to get in & out!

It's too bad that you were disappointed during your stay with us. We pride ourselves on the homey flavor of our B & B, especially as it reflects the uniqueness of New Orleans. We hope you will visit our beautiful city again under different circumstances.

A friendly, family run B&B Mary & Hugh make you most welcome, and on arrival Mary will help plan your stay and give guidance on the best attractions, and places to visit.
Even walking with you to the corner of Bourbon St, so you can have your bearings in NOLA
An 1870 building, with very individual bedrooms and a great communal breakfast room.
Where you can get to know some of your fellow guests, and maybe find new friends
Add to this if you are travelling by car, they have off street private parking, and being just 3 mins walk from Bourbon St, you can park and forget the car for the duration of your stay.
This place combines old time charm (1870's bordello) with gracious living .
If you have not stayed at the Banana Courtyard, then do so in your next visit to NOLA - It will surprise you, it will charm you and with Mary and Hugh as your guides you will have a great stay in NOLA

This was my second stay in the Pirates' Attic at the Banana Courtyard, and both times my experience was a wonderful one. The house is decorated with a great variety of antiques and decorations which provide a warm, welcoming, and homey atmosphere. The Pirates' Attic is an adorable little room filled with lovely pirate themed accents, and it was warm and comfortable despite the rather cool weather. The wonderful atmosphere is enhanced by the fantastic staff - the proprietors, Mary and Hugh, and the entire staff are always friendly, courteous, and helpful. I can't say enough about how wonderful everyone associated with the B&B is. The Banana Courtyard feels like a home away from home, and I can't wait to stay there again on my next trip to New Orleans!

My husband and i are both graduate student who have been travelling on small budgets for years, so we were glad that we found a place in new orleans that costs 80 $ a night. Now, we wish we had spent that eighty somewhere else. The ambience of the place, the location all were excellent. We got free water and soft drinks, but thats about it. The room had no heating and it was cold!! The bed wrecked my back for a week after! The bathroom was so small i got hit/hurt everytime i moved, so my main gripe with this room was why charge so much for so little? And the breakfast in the morning was served so grudgingly that i felt like eating elsewhere just so i wouldnt have to put up with this. They also charge fifteen additional dollars for parking for one night. The only good part was stanley the cab guy!! He was very nice and i think represented the true embracing nature of the city of new orleans, unlike mary and hugh!

The house is great! i liked the ambiance and the decor, very tastefully done. It does give the whole place a rundown and laid-back feel, exactly what one expects in N'Awlins.
Our poor stay probabaly is teh consequence of the room we stayed in. We got the "Pirates Attic ", a tiny space with a bad bed, questionable plumbing in the bathroom especially the semi working shower. There was no heat in the room, New Orleans can get cold! We stayed 5 nights, and the roof leaked on the last tow nights when it rained.
BUT all that is not a problem....I have stayed in worse places and done a fair bit of economy traveling
Besides we spent most of the in the French Quarter and other places...
The souring point of the whole experience was the owner/host Hugh. He was rude, didnot feel welcoming, didnt care to strike up a conversation or inquire about our experience.....
While we were checking out and getting out the door, He said to my girlfriend "Tell the cream of your friends, colleagues and peer group about us, not everybody, but just the cream."
Never been insulted in a better way......
Stay away from this place, there are plenty B&Bs, Hotels and inns in NOLA, give them you business......

Best experience was with Stanley the Cab guy.....give him the business but not Hugh and Mary.

We're glad that you enjoyed our home in the French Quarter. Many, many of our guests have enjoyed the ambiance of our 1870s house which truly is an authentic experience. Sometimes, however, the people are as quirky as the place where they live. We're sorry you felt negatively & hope you will visit this great city again.

Not what we were expecting. Our room, the "Mardi-Gras" room was not very comfortable. The bathroom was old and not very clean. There is construction going on across the street and you can hear it starting up at 7:00 AM! Probably for another 4 to 6 months. I had a bag on top of the dresser that I guess the maid (she was new) thought was trash; it got thrown away. We didn't like that you had to lock and unlock the main gate. We loved the driver they used. Stanley was the best and took great care of us!
