I've been to New Orleans many times on business, and I tried something different this time. Rather than one of the usual Big Hotels, I stayed instead in a neat B & B in Algiers, just across the Big Muddy from the sites and sounds of the Old Quarter. The ferry service across the river is frequent (every half hour), fast (ten minutes), and reliable (always on time). It's a great way to start and end the day--a ten minute walk to the big hotels and Bourbon Street on one riverbank, and a five minute walk to the B&B on the other. The trolley car up Canal Street terminates just across the street from the ferry terminal, and only costs $1.25. The room was very nice and homey, the price was right, and the hospitality was superb. If you're driving, you have free parking in front of the house. And Kevin and Wendy are friendly and helpful. The best meal I had on this visit was not the one I had a Galatoire's, but the one I had in Algiers in a small pub on the corner across the street from the ferry terminal. For sure, I will stay at the House of the Rising Sun on my next trip to New Orleans.

Ralph Oman

Room Tip: I only saw my room, which was very nice--on the first floor with a private bath.

We have stayed at historic houses in the Quarter on Esplanade and Chartres as well as several hotels. Usually the noise from the street and even adjoining rooms is annoying. This B&B is perfect! Quiet neighborhood and very nice accommodations. The host was terrific. Very knowledgeable about history and music. The breakfasts were just right: fresh fruit with Greek Yogurt and Granola and fresh baked croissants from the bakery a couple blocks away. We also enjoyed visiting with the other guests, one couple from Toronto and the other from Wisconsin. Definitely will stay here again!

My husband and I spent three delightful days here, enjoying the welcome of Kevin and Wendy's charming home. We stayed in the middle room with the very comfortable queen bed and never heard a noise from neighbors. The bathroom was a bit small but to be expected from an older home. We had luxurious thick towels, a bountiful shower, and little toiletries if we forgot to pack something.
Kevin prepared breakfast that we ate in a charming dining room. The common/living room had TV, soft sofas and an eclectic array of memorabilia from their interests and travels. Kevin shared stories reflecting his passion for NOLA, jazz and the history of Algiers Point, all reminding me this is why I chose a bed and breakfast. The innkeepers make the stay.
Listen to Kevin's advice and you won't go wrong. PLUS, the home's proximity to the free ferry gave us the opportunity to cross the big river 2x a day. We landed on the other side at the base of Canal St., ready to explore this wonderful city on foot, bus and trolly.

House of the Rising Sun and Algiers Point deliver the best in local style, with international flair. My husband took me to NOLA to celebrate a milestone birthday that I'll never forget, thanks in large part to the hospitality of our hosts Kevin and Wendy. They had excellent tips on food, music, and atmosphere at any number of places - on both sides of the river - where we enjoyed the company of locals. New Orleans is one of the friendliest cities ever, and this B&B is the ideal home base.
This trip was only a long weekend, but next time we'll be sure to allow more time to take the walking tour of the historic neighborhood of Algiers Point as outlined in the historical society's brochure, co-authored by Kevin.
Having a pint at the English pub with our hosts (not sure if Kevin or Boudin was more excited about going to the pub!), we truly felt welcome - Where else but in New Orleans?

Kevin and Wendy have created a wonderful environment for experiencing New Orleans. Set just across the river from the French Quarter in quaint historic Algiers Point. The rooms are very very comfortable. Their puggle, Boudin makes everyone feel at home..he loves to sit with you in the swing on the backporch. Anything you want to know about New Orleans music, just ask Kevin...anything you want to know about Cajun culture, just ask Wendy. As a couple, they are indeed the perfect hosts. I have stayed in many places in New Orleans, but House of the Rising Sun beats them all. It will always be my favorite.

Room Tip: All are wonderful

We highly recommend staying at the House of the Rising Sun B&B. The price was good. The locale is excellent- convenient to the ferry, and Historic Algiers is very charming and safe. The house and room were very nice. Kevin, Wendy and Boudin were friendly, hospitable and helpful. Loved getting to know them as well as the other guests at the breakfast table. Grab a 'to go' drink at the Dry Dock Cafe, jump on the ferry, and enjoy the French Quarter!
We will definitely stay there again!
