This is gem located one block off Bourbon Street next to the Ritz Carlton. The rooms are very generously sized for this area. It also looks like there has been an update to this property lately the rooms look to have the latest Hyatt look and feel. They also have the new cafe-style dining downstairs for coffee and made to order breakfast. Diamonds get breakfast included and it was about the best free breakfast I can remember. I had room service for lunch one day and it was very good as well.
The surprise for me was being next to the Ritz, you can enjoy (Jeremy) Davenport Lounge by literally walking across the street. This guy is a Jazz legend around N.O. in a cool lounge/bar at the Ritz. Stay at the Hyatt and visit the Ritz.

You wont go wrong booking this hotel. Close to all the action but the hotel is situated in such a way you are not bothered with noise at all. We stayed 3 nights and were very impressed with all the amenities and the staff could not have been more helpful.

The room was massive and as already mentioned by another satisfied customer, the bed was amazingly comfortable. No problems sleeping at all.

Unfortunately we did not have long enough to enjoy the pool situated in one of the courtyards but it looked very inviting and again very quiet due to its location away from the streets.

Would go back again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: If you dont want to be bothered with noise please ask for a room overlooking the courtyards

For a recent trip to New Orleans with our adult children, we booked three rooms for a long holiday weekend. About two years ago, this property changed to a Hyatt flag. This property is the old D.H. Holmes Department Store building in the first block of Bourbon. We had stayed there many times when it was the Chateau Sonesta (sister property to the well-respected Royal Sonesta). We also stayed a few times when it changed to the Wyndham Chateau Bourbon. The Wyndham experiment thankfully was short-lived, and we were excited to see this property changed over to a Hyatt.

It is important to note that Hyatt is our hotel brand of choice, all the way from the Grand Hyatts and Park Hyatts down to the entry-level Hyatt Places. Since we generally have had great experience with Hyatts (a notable Hyatt property which repeatedly disappoints being the Hyatt Beaver Creek), we were hopeful to find another top-notch hotel in New Orleans, particularly in a quiet but convenient area of the French Quarter.

When we priced the rooms, there were generally as expensive as the Roosevelt Hotel (a Waldorf affiliate which I consider currently to be the top hotel in New Orleans), and about double the price of the J.W. Marriott, the Hilton, the Marriott, etc. We decide to splurge to see how this property had turned out.

The disappointment started almost as soon as we arrived. First, we are informed that we have to pay the "oversized" parking rate, even though our midsize SUV fits in the same parking space as a Volvo, BMW, or Buick. Thus, we were clipped for about an extra $50 of unfair parking upcharges for the three days.

We next go to the check-in and find that our "Bourbon Balcony Room" is actually way up on the 4th floor (a balcony room, yes, but not what has traditionally be advertised as a balcony room at this property). Our room rate was at least $50 - $70 more per night than a standard room. Significantly, we were assigned this room even though we had booked a total of three rooms for three nights and I am a Hyatt Platinum member. In any event, the front desk tried to move us to an interior balcony room on the third floor with a "promise" that they would try to move us the next day to the appropriate room. The manager finally intervened (heaven knows why it took 30 minutes to get him involved). He offered to move us to a pool deck room (which is a nice room and is recommended) and credit us $50 per night to make up the price difference. That problem was solved (we thought).

The next day we tried to retrieve our vehicle from valet parking to make an appointment out in the Garden District. We thought we had allowed plenty of time, but it took over 30 minutes to get the car, and that retrieval required getting the manager-on-duty involved. For my "oversized" $42 per day parking charge, I expected better service. We barely made our appointment and that was after an unnecessary "mad dash" through the New Orleans streets.

Next, we found that the internet charge was $5.00 per day, even for Hyatt Platinum members. Wireless typically is free everywhere; why clip a good customer for a product that does not cost anything to provide?

Finally, at checkout, we were given the statement, and, as you probably guessed, the $50 per night credit was not on the bill. The front desk had to call the manager who initially was going to have to call another manager, but he finally agreed to go ahead and give the credit. It is good that we were driving and not having to rush to catch a flight.

There were positive aspects, however. First, the property has been redone very nicely, and it is a very nice property with lots of potential. The bell staff that we encountered were very good and very apologetic for the problems. The location is great, and the pool area is one of the better ones in New Orleans.

In summary, this property has now been a Hyatt for two years. By now the service issues should have been resolved; they have not. This property is very overpriced when compared to other hotels (apparently, at this time, they are getting these prices, but that success will not last long unless service improves).

Bottom line - until service improves and prices come into line, avoid this hotel and go to either the Roosevelt, the Windsor Court, the Royal Sonesta, or one of the other fine properties. Current rating is 2 out of 5; If these problems are addressed, the rating probably should be 4 out of 5. The hotelhas great potential; it merely is not meeting it at the present.

Room Tip: Pool deck rooms on the 2nd floor; Bourbon Balcony (but only if they can commit to a 2nd floor room)

My first time to New Orleans was exciting and thanks to our choice of hotel, very memorable. Never have I ever experienced such charm on such a grand scale. From the outside, the hotel looks new and inviting. Once you enter, there is old Louisiana charm everywhere. The location itself is perfect. I cannot wait to return!

I've stayed in a few properties around the Canal Street side of the French Quarter & the Hyatt has quickly become my favorite. The rooms are spacious, recently updated & very clean. We had a courtyard view room which allowed for a nice quiet atmosphere inside the room... I can't vouch for the volume in street facing rooms of course. The location is perfect, right on Iberville between Bourbon & Dauphine- so it is steps to the action on Bourbon but also to Canal, & only a few blocks away from the riverfront (Harrah's, the Aquarium, etc.) The pool is a nice size, virtually empty during the week and kind of crowded over the weekends when the pool bar is open and bachelor/bachelorette type groups seem to be in town. The staff is super polite and helpful & the amenities are very nice; I know some reviews have been made about aggressive staff and security, but I feel like this is not a budget friendly hotel to get rowdy in- if you respect the property and employees, they will respect you. Overall a great experience for my husband and I as we traveled to New Orleans for the 3rd & 4th time respectively, to celebrate my 30th Birthday.

Room Tip: Ask for a pool or courtyard facing room, I have heard the street facing rooms can get a little noisy...

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in May and absolutely enjoyed everything the Hyatt had to offer. The room was huge, the bed was unbelievably comfortable, and the bathroom was clean and large. We ate at the small snack bar in the lobby a few times and the food was excellent (Better than some of the restaurants we tried on Bourbon Street). We booked all our tours in the hotel, and although we paid more than we should have at least we had someone to go to if there was a problem, which there wasn’t, and it was very convenient and all the tours were as promised.

If you want to be close to Bourbon Street, but not right on it then this is the place for you. I highly recommend the Hyatt French Quarter, for the price it was excellent.

This hotel is in the heart of the French Quarter, only steps away from Bourbon St., nevertheless the room was very quite.
Room was comfortable, spacious and the staff was professional and friendly.
If you travel by car, do not use the valet service if you'd like to save some money. On the corner across the street from the hotel's entrance there is a parking garage with attendants that offers overnight parking for half the price of the same service at the hotel.
