“Great Location, nice staff...”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

Great location - adjacent to the French Quarter. Huge hotel - getting a bit tired so a renovation would not go astray...but nice if you get a room high up as views are great and rooms very light. Very comfortable rooms really - although a bit small. Let's face it if you are in New Orleans then a comfortable room in a good location is all you need and this place fits the bill at a fairly reasonable rate.

The staff are all very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Aim high !

My husband and I stayed here recently on a comp from Harrah's. Was a little worried when I read some of the reviews, but we were not disappointed. Check in was quick and we were offered a river view for an additional price. I declined and found that the view from our room on the 25th floor was great. Hotel is older, but updated. The room was spacious, nicely decorated and very clean. They have a unique elevator service where you call for the car by floor number, so it works as an express, where you are not stopping at every floor picking up people. Everyone we encountered was friendly. Valet parking was pricey, but parking in New Orleans is a prime, so cost is understandable. There is a nice restaurant on site. They do have a breakfast buffet, but we chose to pick from the menu. The location is within walking distance of the French Quarter, casino, museums and River Walk.

Room Tip: Any rooms on upper floors have a great view.

Green Features: Hotel is green and encourages re-using towels. Elevator system is more efficient.

The staff was very friendly and the hotel seemed very clean. Concierge service could have been more helpful. The parking price was ridiculous on top of the room rate. Bathrooms were too small and beds way too soft with a mattress topper that kept coming off in the night as we slept.

Dear miscmail,

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We deeply appreciate it as it helps us continuously perfect the art of hosting brilliantly. We're delighted that you were pleased by the friendly staff and clean rooms, but we are disappointed to hear that our concierge service and Marriott beds did not exceed your expectations. We hope to have the opportunity to one day make this up to you should your travels lead you back to New Orleans.

Booked 7 rooms last summer for a family occasion, $80/night via Hotwire. Great location if you want to be near the French Quarter, but the property felt like it was catering to $80/night deals these days. If you can get that price, book it with a smile! However, you will overpay if you pay full price, as the rooms are in need of an update in order to remain a 4 star hotel.

Complaints/recommendations:

Our cab driver dropped us off at the Canal street entrance. I couldn't understand why we would have to schlep our suitcases up 3-4 stairs in order to get to the lobby. Turns out, he dropped us off at the wrong entrance. Nonetheless, why isn't there a ramp for this entrance? Instead, there is an elevator that rises and drops 2 feet. 2 feet in approximately 2 minutes. My mother-in-law is in a wheelchair and a ramp would have been much more efficient to enter and exit on Canal Street. Buy hey, this is Louisiana... maybe a local politician or contractor had a cousin who sold elevators- thus, the Canal street entrance has an elevator rather than a ramp.

A/C in our room was not working at 100%. The room was consistently damp and stuffy. Maintenance worked on it one night, but I can't say that there was much improvement.

A prankster pulled the fire alarm on Saturday night and guests in that tower were not allowed to return to their rooms. However, apparently guest were allowed to return to their rooms if they were in the other tower. Whether or not this is safe or advised, staff were not posted in entrance/exit locations to communicate exactly what was going on.

On a positive note, should you crave a beer while in the shower, there are bottle openers fastened to the shower wall for your convenience. (Maybe another cousin sold bottle openers?)

Dear brandi t,

Thank you for posting your review from your stay last summer. As you alluded to we are receiving a complete room renovation which begins in just a couple months from now and will consist of a brand new modern-chic design. I am sorry to hear that the cab driver dropped you off at our Canal Street entrance of the hotel where we have our wheelchair lift available. Additionally, we are sorry for being inconvenienced due to the fire alarm. This certainly provides us an opportunity for training to enhance communication during these situations. We hope to host you and your family again for this summer and exceed your expectations.

We loved this hotel. The location is unbeatable. Service was fantastic. The concierge lounge was very good for a US based hotel. Modern lobby, small rooms, but typical New Orleans. My husband traveled with me on a business trio. My co-workers ranged from 26-48 and we all loved the hotel.

Dear Niki,

We're glad you loved our hotel and we couldn't agree more about our service and location. It's great you enjoyed our concierge lounge. We're actually looking forward to being one of the earliest Marriott properties to adopt an M Club, which will give an even more VIP experience to our loyal Elite guests. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Room and amenities were clean and well kept. Centrally located easy enough to walk to Jackson Square, Bourbon Street and French Market. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely return to this hotel our next time here.

We stayed three nights with a family group. No complaints from anyone. Justin was very helpful with check-in and Stewart was top notch showing us to our room, making restuarant recommendations and even getting ice before he left us. Stewart even remembered our names when he saw us in the lobby the next afternoon. Rooms were clean and comfortable and the hotel location is perfect one could not ask for better service.
