Is it possible to find a quiet hotel room in the French Quarter? Yes, if you stay at the Hotel Provincial. Most of the rooms face an interior courtyard (be sure to ask for one) away from the hubbub out on the street. The bed was extremely comfortable. Good I had an alarm, or I would have overslept. Staff at the front desk go out of their way to be of assistance. This place is a keeper.

Room Tip: Rooms facing interior courtyard are quiet.

We stayed in this hotel Oct. 26-29, 2011. The staff were great. There is a basic continental breakfast included. A great perk is that coffee and tea are available 24/7. We asked for a courtyard room, which was quieter than a street room. The courtyard hours are 8:00 am - 11:00 pm so we didn't have to worry about rowdy partiers when we wanted to sleep. It was nice to sit out there with a cup of coffee in the morning. The room was ok, nothing spectacular, but adequate. It could have been a little cleaner. The location is on the edge of the French Quarter which meant it was away from the craziness of Bourbon Street, but with easy access to wherever you'd like to go. You don't need a car if you're staying in the French Quarter. I would probably stay here again, but other favorite hotels are the Dauphine Orleans and the Hotel Monteleone. The restaurant "Stella" is there (dinner only), and is one of the best in the French Quarter. Pricey, but worth every penny.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room, ask for a 2nd floor courtyard room

We visited with a large group for a wedding the hotel has a great location and was well-maintained. After staying at at least 10 different hotels in the French Quarter, I have a decent idea on what to expect, i.e. not much. HP was clean and had a nice pool/courtyard, pretty small area to sun with about four lounge chairs. Room was ready and we arrived earlier than the 3pm check-in which was nice. Most of our group was in the main building adjacent to the valet parking and check-in (we were in 103) and rooms in this area are not quiet due to the hotel room door opening onto the courtyard. The rooms staff starts work about 9am with rolling carts vibrating loudly over the courtyard brick. Ear plugs are a must. Our particular room did not have any thermostat, so there was no way to regulate the room temperature other than to open the tilt-style window over the double doors. Thankfully the exhaust worked in the bathroom so we were able to move air through the room, with the window closed, it was extremely damp and musty. Typical NOLA issues like the noise and of course the tub fills when you shower. On the other hand, the first floor courtyard room meant no winding hallways or stairs to get to and from the room.

Room Tip: I would guess there are quieter rooms that are not located on the courtyard.

This is a typical case where you get what you pay for, nothing impressive! A big plus for the hotel is its location: just a couple of blocks from the Cathedral (on the same street) in front of Jackson Square. The hotel offers complimentary breakfast (Ok for American, lame for foreigners) and parking which is very convenient as you park your car and forget about it. This hotel comprises a group of five more or less recovered buildings. I was in room #534 (building 5) and it furniture was in pretty bad shape. Ah, if you get this room and wonder about the open tube showing from the ceiling above the hand basin, it is the drainage for the air conditioner unit which drains directly into the sink below. So if you are washing your teeth be careful not to get the back of your neck all wet with condensed water. Lately, I tried to post this comment on the hotel web page (www.hotelprovincial.com) and it was censored so do not believe everything is just perfect as the messages seem to indicate.

Room Tip: Do not get Room #534

This is a great hotel in the French Quater located in a quiet area between the craziness of Bourbon Street and the heart of the French market. You are just a few blocks away from anything that you would want to do: eat, drink, sitesee, shop! The staff is SUPER friendly and helpfull, and they have parking inside the complex. The rooms were clean, the beds were very comfortable and the continental breakfast was adequate to begin each day.

Room Tip: Everyone that I talked to loved their room. The building I stayed in had four floors and there was...

I visited New Orleans with my other half and another couple and as we were doing a bit of a road trip and trying to fit a lot in, were keen not to spend too much money on accommodation. This was the cheapest place we stayed in the whole time we were in the States and by far the best value. The building and the rooms are beautiful (and clean) with a great little courtyard and peaceful pool. The location is right smack in the middle of the French Quarter (but far enough away from Bourbon street to be nice and quiet) and you can walk everywhere. Very close to a lot of great restauarants and has its own restaurant 'Stella' which although we didn't go there (bit too posh for the likes of us!) looked lovely. We did frequent its 'sister' restaurant 'Stanley's' just down the road which is much more casual and had THE BEST breakfasts. The staff at Hotel Provincial are very friendly and helpful and more than happy to help with recommendations for things to do and places to eat and drink. Had a great time, and would definitely go back.
