Located walking distance to everything in the French Quarter, yet far enough away that you don't have any of the loud late night noises. The hotel staff greeted us and treated us w/ the utmost hospitality. The rooms were clean, neat, and full of old time furniture (except the mattress, which was very comfortable). We had a room in building, second story, right on the street! the windows were actually doors that opened fully to the front, letting us open them, let the breeze in and watch the horse buggies and people going up and down the street. The courtyard (for building 1) was very nice, pretty fountain and had tables and chairs for our family to sit at and catch up. The hotel has pools and more courtyards, but we didn't get a chance to check them out. I recommend this hotel. Tell them the Downey's sent you! As it was a family reunion, they may remember us. :)

Room Tip: Get the 2nd level building 1 front road rooms! awesome!!!

the Provincial was a great place to stay. I'm glad that I took my coworker's advise to stay here. The whole staff epitomized Southern Hospitality. You are staying in the heart of the French Quarter, so everything is within walking distance East ward or West ward.
Although, a bit disappointed that we didn't get to experience any of the known ghost haunting.
Maybe for next time we'll stay in one of the building 5 rooms.

Room Tip: stay anywhere in the 400 or 500 building rooms.

My daughter and I and a dear friend of ours went to New Orleans for a quick, brief trip. Our first impression of this hotel was a last minute extension of our trip; this was not a problem at all. Upon arrival we were greeted with friendly staff, as we explained our situation. Being that one of us snored, we were concerned with the three of us sharing one room. The staff graciously showed us different room options, walking all over the hotel. We ended up staying with our original booking with the option of changing the following night if need be. That was never needed.

We stayed in the petite suite, 2 beds and a sleep sofa. The room was beautifully furnished and very clean. The staff also put in a small refrigerator in the room at our request. The layout of the hotel made this room almost a building onto itself, not sharing any walls with another room. (think of an H, this room is the connector line) All three of us felt like we were the cats meow, we were treated that nicely. Beautiful surroundings, great staff, and the best room in the place made our trip awesome!

Before we arrived in New Orleans we were alerted by Travelocity that the hotel was doing some renovations. I called the hotel to see if it would be a problem for us during our stay and the the hotel front desk answered and were very assuring that it was renovations to some of the rooms and would not be an issue. They were right, the noise level during the day was hardly noticeable and our stay was great. The only issue we had was when we arrived out shower head had hardly any water coming out...more was coming out of the handle. It took a couple of times telling the front desk but once I found the right person she took care of it. I will add that the front desk staff was great.

The location in the French Quarter is 2.5 blocks from Jackson Square, one block from Decatur Street and a short walk to the main nightlife on Bourbon Street...far enough to make this a quiet place.

Our room was off the courtyard right behind the lobby building. We were just about five or six steps to the pool. The room was what you would expect for the FQ. My wife said the bed might have been the most comfortable she has ever slept in. The room decor was antiques and a canopy over the head of the bed. Included a newer LCD TV, and a iPod radio/clock/dock.

When we make our return trip this is where I want to stay.

Room Tip: The Haunted Tours tell of stories of hauntings at this hotel...mostly building 5. We never had any p...

Great location in the French Quarter near to bars, restaurants and clubs. The street itself is quiet and the hotel feels peaceful and secluded. The pool areas and courtyards and really pleasant. My room was nicely furnished, comfortable and cool. The best thing about staying at the Hotel Provincial was the staff. I am a young female travelling alone and they all really looked out for me which I really appreciated. They were all so kind, knowledgable and cheerful. The only negatives were thin walls (could hear my neighbour very clearly) and breakfast was a bit uninspiring. But all in all, staying there enhanced my visit to a wonderful city. Thank you!

Our first trip to New Orleans. This hotel is the best place to stay in the French Quarter, reasonably priced, close to everything. Walk to French Market, Jackson Square, 2 blocks to Bourbon Street. Secure parking and complimentary valet. It is an old hotel but updates are great. New bathrooms & wonderful bedding. The staff is AWESOME! Never stayed in a hotel that made us feel so welcome. This is THE best experience we have ever had at a hotel.

Room Tip: We stayed on second floor overlooking the pool. Rooms were quiet, easy access to everything. Beautif...

Location was perfect - right inside the French Quarter, everything within walking distance, yet far enough from the lovely noisy Bourbon Street to ensure a quiet night's sleep. Our room had a fireplace and crystal chandelier and an enormous comfortable bed. Friendly staff! Breakfast was a strange affair for Australians but the Americans do not seem to mind the setup - it was ok. We would definitely recommend and stay there again.
