“Very good stay, well-located in the French Quarter”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

We stayed for a three-night weekend and had a great stay on our first trip to New Orleans. We were looking for a nice property, but smaller and more intimate than some of the larger (but very nice) hotels in the FQ. Hotel Provincial didn't disappoint. We booked a room one level above standard and received a very nice, 2nd story room in "haunted" building 5. Our room had a large, shared balcony that overlooked Decatur Street. Great for cocktails in the evening (or at 12pm, it IS New Orleans, after all). We loved that this hotel was very close to Jackson Square, the Streetcar and the French Market, but still just enough removed to be quiet and provide a good night's sleep. We'd stay again in a heartbeat. Be sure to ask the front desk for food and entertainment recommendations - they will point you in the right direction, I promise!

Had a great stay. The staff here are extremely accommodating. Special accolades to the am desk manager, Shirlaine(sp?) and ;David (bags/valet). Big smiles from all every am. Had a very comfortable room over the courtyard. Beautiful view but a bit noisy when the senior tour groups meet up for am coffee or evening recap of days events. However, a gentle reminder that people are trying to sleep moves them on their way. Will definitely be back. Shirlaine..get the backup coffee pot ready!

We were booked here for several nights before embarking on a cruise, and found this hotel to be very well located. The room was fine. We appreciated having an iron and ironing board in the room, and we were happy that our room overlooked a quiet street. Breakfast was a little sparse, and the breakfast area could use a few more tables and chairs to accommodate guests. The staff seemed a little dour. All in all, though, we would stay here again.

My husband and I stayed her for 4 nights just last week. This was our second stay here. Both times we we're put in building 5 (which is apparently haunted). We never say any ghosts and slept well. The room had a really good air conditioner which is sometimes hard to come by in older hotels. The street is quiet but close to the french market and all the action on bourbon st. There are two great bars just around the corner Molly's and Coops. We didn't eat the breakfast because we went to get beingnets each day. Our room was on the small side but that's is to be expected in an older building. Everyone there very nice and helpful. The little bar for happy hour is great.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in building 5 if you are a ghost hunter. It was a civil war hospital and was a stop o...

I was a little wary of this hotel based on some of the reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. Check-in was quick and easy as was the valet parking. The parking is in the courtyard of the property, so you can check on your vehicle at any time. Parking is such a nightmare in the French Quarter that we would have skipped the rental car if we could, but we needed it to see family near Lafayette later in the week. Expect the $26 a day in parking and go with it.

The staff was friendly. The breakfast left a lot to be desired. The boiled eggs were like rubber, but the pastries were fine. It is free. Although there are several buildings, we stayed in the main building in a courtyard room, 108 to be specific. The rooms are adequately sized with nice furniture. I did request two chairs. One chair for a couple is not functional. The tile bathroom, though lovely, is a tad slippery. The bed was soft and comfortable; hubby said it was too soft. The old walls were not designed with sound barriers, so noise does travel. Expect it and bring earplugs. The HVAC worked great with the temperature swings during our visit.

The best thing about the hotel is the location. It is in a quiet neighborhood that is only a few blocks from Bourbon Street. It's a quick walk to almost anywhere in the Quarter except for Canal Street. That's a longer walk. I was impressed with the surrounding historical buildings. Our haunted history tour even stopped out in front of our hotel. Apparently the hotel is haunted. We had no problems; however, I heard from the staff that most ghost sightings have been in building five. Highly recommended.

My husband and I recently stayed here taking a chance it would be decent enough for our 6 year anniversary trip. It was more than we expected! It was quaint, charming and the staff was very accommodating. The location is perfect - a quiet residential street behind Jackson Square. We were able to get around quite easily. We love the view and wish it was warmer (we went in January) but we tried to keep our romantic windows open to soak in the beauty of the street.

Can't beat the price either! We look forward to visiting again.

I will say a note to the management - it wouldn't hurt to update the bathrooms or at least a deep clean on the baseboards.

We traveled with a group of 12. Checking was very quick and easy and the staff was very nice. They allowed us to split the cost of the rooms right on the spot. Staff was friendly. The court yard is lovely and a wonderful place to sit and enjoy coffee in the morning and drinks in the afternoon with friends. Close to the main activity in New Orleans and the Market center.

A wonderful quite place. Have stayed here twice and would stay again.
