My Wife and I loved this hotel. Everything was just as we expected, the room was very nice looking out on the courtyard. Full of old world style. The staff was very nice, anything that we needed, they took care of. We had a great time and will go back many times

We always wanted to see New Orleans so decided to make it our 25th Anniversary destination. We certainly weren't disappointed. I researched several French Quarter Hotels on the Trip Advisor Web Site and picked the Hotel Provincial based on the number of positive reviews. The Hotel Provincial was certainly an excellent choice. The staff were friendly and exceptionally helpful from advising what make of Creole and Jambalya mixes were the best, to arranging tours and even calling a taxi to arrive within minutes when our prepaid Airport Shuttle service did not pick us up as pre-arranged for our return flight. The pools and courtyard are beautiful. The place is spotless. The location was excellent - only a block from Decateur Street and the River. We absolutely recommend this hotel. Our stay was perfect in all ways.

Looking for a unique hotel experience in the New Orleans French quarter? The 90-room Hotel Provincial will give you an unforgettable experience to which only two words can apply: RIP OFF! Advertised as a “charming court-yard getaway” deep within the French Quarter in a “beautifully restored” 200 year old building, the Provincial offers a number of egregious features designed to outrage the sensibilities of even the most experienced flop house residents. These include “suites” consisting of bizarre loft and windowless lower room combinations, replete with dirt and careworn décor; bathroom mirrors so low you need to kneel to see your reflection; desk clerks who have obviously fired the sunset gun in the early afternoon; grisly legends of leather-clad physician ghosts wielding saws; and a general air of decay and neglect. The prices at the Provincial are higher than 5 star hotels in the same neighborhood – they obviously want to sting you for a rate that would equal 5 nights rent at a fair market rate, because nobody will stay a 2nd night in this place. The best indicator of neglect was on a small plaque outside the building – barely noticeable, indicating that the Provincial had been awarded a local prize for tasteful renovation in 1961!

We booked through Expedia and got a wonderful room facing Chartres St. Friends of ours also booked through Expedia and got a room in Building 5, which was lovely but extremely musty. They were moved to the main building on the second day. NO had just experienced a hurricane which might explain the musty smell in a room facing the river. I would definitely stay at this hotel again, requesting any building but No. 5.

I love that is it in the quarter and walking distance from everything. I really love that it is not in the center of the quarter so you dont have to put up with the noise of all the drunks..the rooms are beautifull and clean.

personally, i loved the hotel provincial. we did stay in the back building, #5 and though it had it's faults, i found it charming. my spouse on the other hand, found it dingy and stale. i think he's a snob. ok, when the toilet flushed in the next room, the shower went freezing. that was wierd. -but with 15-foot ceilings, chandeliers and an enormous balcony overlooking the french market, i can deal with a few faults. i like to call it "character." it sure beats your usual cookie-cutter McHotels!

Wife and I just returned from NO, a little trip to celebrate our 40th anniversary. Stayed two nights in the Provincial, building 5. Contrary to some postings we were very pleased with the hotel and the assigned room. We like to stay in the older, historic hotels with the 12 foot ceilings, mismatched, but almost antique furniture, oak doors and trim, and the creakiness of the stairways. The room & bath were clean and the ac was running full blast on 70 when we checked in. Walking out the "front door" through the bar put us in the middle of the French market on Decatur St and just a short walk through the market to the Moon Walk, the levy walk on the Mississippi. Leave by the front door of the hotel on Chartres, turn left and it's just two blocks to Jackson Square. We'll stay here next time!!
