My best friend, and I (and each of our oldest daughters) could not be happier after our stay with Prytania Park Hotel. (October 5th, 2011)

I'll admit, I was a bit nervous after seeing some of the mixed reviews. We were quickly put at ease prior to our stay, thanks largely to a quick email correspondence with the general manager, Dori Schulman. We had a few specific questions, all of which were answered in detail.

Finding the hotel (even for two people who get nervous when traveling in unfamiliar areas) was easy. Free parking - HUGE bonus in this area, by the way - was in the lot in 'front' of the hotel. Easily manageable, easy access. Excellent.

Front desk staff (WHY can't I remember her name? I hope someone will comment and remind me - our stay was on 5 October, and we checked in approximately 4:30pm) was EXCELLENT. Friendly, knowledgeable, patient. She was ready to answer any and all questions, had plenty of information to give us, and was extremely patient with our excited chatter.

The hotel itself was charmingly beautiful. After chatting with the staff member at the front desk, we made our way to our carefully-chosen room. Our particular room was chosen for the "loft" area, which held the second queen bed ... and was accessed by a quaint spiral staircase. Our daughters squealed with delight and immediately climbed the stairs to their portion of the room.

I'd read that the bathrooms were small, so I was a bit nervous, seeing as we had four females getting ready to go to a concert. My nervousness was unfounded, though. Although the shower/toilet room is JUST large enough for the shower and toilet, there was PLENTY of counter space in the vanity area! This is important, because you know us girls like to spread our hair/makeup products all over the place while we decide what to do!

By the way: there was also a mini fridge and decent-size microwave (not the kind that just pops a bag of popcorn - this one would equate to the counter-size m/w I use at home!). Also important!

Oh and the WiFi? Free, and easily accessible. Thank you!

We asked for taxi numbers, and the clerk offered to call for us (thank you!). We'd requested waters and snacks be placed on our hotel bill (it was), and the clerk was again friendly and helpful.

Side note: hotel staff should not assume that out-of-towners know how public transport works. We assumed the trolley near the hotel would go directly to the French Quarter, where we'd be going later that night ... we did NOT realize we'd have to take THREE trolleys to get where we wanted to go! While she was sweet about telling us how inexpensive the rides were, and how the money machine works (doesn't give change), and how they become less frequent as the night gets late ... she didn't mention we'd need to switch trolleys ... or that we'd have to know whether to take the red or green line at each interval.

We returned to our room a little after 1 a.m., exhausted but happy, and were greeted by a cool room, comfortably sigh-worthy beds, and soft lighting (we'd left a lamp on, and it had a low-light setting).

Let me say, the beds were TRULY dreamable. Firm, but with a pillow-top layer. So, soft to the touch, but great for my aching back (4 hours of driving, 4 of concert, 2 of taxis and walking).

Water pressure was fine for us. Again, the vanity space was wonderful as we all crowded around to brush our teeth and hair, apply a little makeup, and tame our hair.

Breakfast consisted of coffee, juice, milk, cereal, cheese/fruit danish, and croissants (with various butters and jelly packets). Simple, which was exactly what we needed before we headed out to walk around the French Quarter for a while (again, not understanding the trolley system, since we'd taken a cab the night before).

I cannot think of a single thing I would change about the Prytania Park Hotel. We plan to eventually get back to NOLA for some more sightseeing, and will DEFINITELY stay here again!

Thank you, Prytania Park Hotel - we're definitely FANS!!

Room Tip: If you only need 2 beds, but have kids - try for the 'loft' room!

The staff really made the experience. After a long day of traveling, Judith helped me find a place to eat and plan my activities for the next day Go to Zea's BBQ!. The rooms are clean and comfortable. A big plus is the St. Charles car is just down the block and excellent transportation. Again the staff is very helpful and friendly. The hotel is nicely situated in the city, close to to transporation and resturants but far enought way to have a quiet stay,

Room Tip: Get a room on the first floor...it's hard to walk up your bags!

A wonderfully characterful hotel in the garden district of New Orleans. Although we booked one of the smaller Queen rooms, it was very spacious. The room had wooden floorboards and a high ceiling, and a bathroom with fabulous vintage wallpaper. It was extremely hot during our stay, but the quiet, centrally-controlled air conditioning made the room an oasis of calm. It's in an excellent location - the tram to the French Quarter is just across the road, and there are several restaurants close by if you don't want to venture too far. Although it's not a modern hotel (there is no lift) I was amazed that it didn't charge more per night.

Room Tip: Book direct through the hotel's website - choose the room and save money too.

We arrived on Labor Day weekend as Tropical Storm Lee was in town! :-)
I had made reservations several weeks before -- talked to Christine and talked with her before our visit to get some recommendations on what to see while there for only 2 days.
This hotel and the staff is AWESOME!!
Do NOT expect a 'chain hotel' atmosphere! and WHO WOULD WANT TO?? if you book here???!!! This is a lovely, quaint hotel in the middle of a great neighborhood filled with older homes and great places to shop and eat. All within walking distance.

Again, the STAFF (in particular, Christine, who works night and day and ALWAYS with a pleasant attitude and helpful approach!!) is just SO helpful and friendly!
Our visit was my husband and I, our adult daughter and our 12 year old son...so we were able to get recommendations on what to see and what to avoid with the child with us!

The rooms are just so comfortable, exceedingly CLEAN and unique with the lofts for extra people and plenty of space for relaxing.
Internet was GREAT--even in the midst of a tropical storm! And.....NO smoke smell as guests are asked to smoke outside!
Wonderful small courtyard.

You must be willing to walk up steps (either for a second floor room, or even IN your room for the loft area, if needed.

THANKS go to the staff of this hotel for maintaining a GREAT attitude, helpful info, and even calling cabs, calling restaurants, etc for info!!

VISITED:
WW2 museum....a MUST see if you have any interest in this history...the 'on site' vets who help explain exhibits are a rare and treasured find!
AND...the AMERICAN SECTOR restaurant is ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!
SNUG HARBOR JAZZ CLUB....GREAT place to take any ages as the club is just great jazz musicians without any 'adult' additions to the show.
SOUTHERN STYLE TOURS....got a great deal on 'groupon' and the four of us got a very nice overview of the city, including progress from Katrina re-building.
CRESCENT CITY BREWHOUSE....husband and daughter got to do a local brewery beer tasting and enjoyed it very much!

Room Tip: if you need separate sleeping for members of your party....the loft rooms are GREAT!!....but MUST be...

Our stay in April of 2011 was pleasant with a couple of little issues that didn't really bother us, but could be a problem for some. We had to keep the air conditioning on otherwize a moldy smell would take over, and the tub did not drain well so our shower quickly turned into a foot bath. We let the owners know after we left and they might have taken care of it by now. The staff was great, the gardens district is near by, and most attractions are reachable on foot or with a quick trolley ride. The breakfast was very basic, but kept us going until lunch. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The nights and mornings were quiet which helped us regenerate for another adventurous day. The staff at the reception desk helped us pick activities that offered the best services with greatest value. We'd go back to Prytania Park hotel any time!

This hotel was the perfect choice for us and far exceeded our expectations. We are a family of four and we got a room that featured two twin beds in a loft above the main room-- with a queen sized bed for us. The setup was great and enabled the kids to do their thing while we did ours. The main room wasn't huge but there was plenty of welcome counter space in the bathroom sink area, which included a fridge and a microwave. It was 100 degrees outside, but the air conditioner and fan worked perfectly to keep the room cool. The hotel was also conveniently located near the St. Charles streetcar for trips to Bourbon St. and a short walk to the WW2 Museum. Most importantly, the price was very reasonable and the free and safe parking enabled us to have easy access to our car. Christine at the front desk was especially helpful with tips on planning our activities, and which tours/attractions were worth doing and fitting it all in logistically. We have only praise, no complaints --and will definitely be back if we come to New Orleans again. Thanks very much.

Room Tip: Families with kids might want to request the rooms with lofts to give the kids their own space.

Wow, folks are harsh on Trip Advisor. This hotel is a bargain. My friend and I stayed here in one of the loft rooms (second bed and dresser accessed via small spiral straircase) this past spring. The room was clean, the beds were good with nice linens, and we each had our own area in the suite which worked great for us. Yes, the shower/toilet area is tight and the room was small, too, but you are in an older hotel in the Garden District and the cost is very reasonable! The single sink was located outside the bathroom within a roomy counter area where the small refrig was located. We enjoyed the convenient location with easy-to-access free parking and a choice of several good restaurants within a few blocks--in addition to the St. Charles streetcar a short walk away. Our second floor room was accessed via exterior stairs in the courtyard with bamboo growing through the decks--a very nice detail. The continental breakfast was served in the courtyard one morning of our stay and was the standard selection of pastries, etc., served in most hotels. All in all, we were very pleased with our two night stay at the Prytania Park.
