“very pleased with our stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 June 2012

Have spent a great deal of time over the years in New Orleans and the Lafayette Hotel has now become our hotel of choice. Location is great, right on St. Charles streetcar line and just six blocks from the French Quarter(which is way too crowded and touristy). It also is conveniently located right across the street from our favorite restaurant, Herbsaint. Also, though had heard of it over the past few years, had our first meal at Mike's on the Avenue in the Lafayette Hotel, and was very pleased with it. Good coffee shop, P.J.'s, only a block away, and an excellent grocery store, Rouse's, only 2 blocks away. Our room was a nice size, well-appointed, comfortable, and clean. The staff was both courteous and helpful. As for cost of room, it was quite reasonable for what we got.

Stayed for our honeymoon. Hotel provided champagne in room which was a lovely gesture. Door and desk staff very helpful and engaging particularly Dwayne who was very helpful. Any difficulties were resolved quickly. Easy walking to French Quarter, easy access to street cars. Next to Lafayette Square where we caught Trombone Shorty in a free gig. Food at Mikes was exceptional - the Steak and the Sake where favourites. Breakfast on the square easily accessible. All in all highly recommended and wee would stay there again. Charming place. Felt very safe too.

My husband and I recently had a lovely stay at this hotel during a 3 day trip to New Orleans. Suite was spacious, and nicely appointed. The room was old in a nostalgic way, but clean, although the carpet was in need of a scrubbing or replacement. This aside, the staff was exceptional and could not be more attentive and accomodating, or make us feel more welcome. Location was great, walking distance to everything...Bourbon, Royal, Canal, Harrah's... (including a gourmet market 2 blocks away and coffee house across the street), but a streetcar stop in front of the hotel came in handy when our legs grew tired. Mike's on The Avenue was equally a wonderful experience (yes, they have a happy hour and very friendly bartenders!). This was my first trip to the Vieux Carre' , but upon my next visit, this hotel will be where I stay. Thanks for a great experience!

Our recent stay in New Orleans was enhanced by having a great hotel to stay in. The location on St. Charles Avenue made it easy to use a street car or walk to all of the action in New Orleans. The food at the nearby Herbsainte restaurant was delicious. There is a coffee shop across the street, open during the week that makes finding fresh morning coffee or tea and breakfast easy. Around the corner on Girod and Camp is another. We also ate at Mike's on the Avenue. Great Sushi and superb cheese cake. A fridge in the room would have made the stay a little more comfortable for night time snacking. However, we would stay at the Lafayette on St. Charles again.

This old, but in the process of sprucing up, hotel is extremely well located on St. Charles Ave. streetcar stop on corner as is one of New Orleans best restaurants, Herbsainte. Clean, comfortable, ask for one of the completed floors. Should be finished by end of June. Service is excellent, but wi-fi spotty.

Room Tip: Fifth floor

This hotel was recommended to us by a friend who stays there several times a year, and it was a good tip. The hotel is old, but comfortable. We tried but couldn't get a balcony room. The room we got was large, very nice king size bed, decent bed linens. Bathroom was large but, of course, not enough shelves to put toiletries. I wish there was less furniture in the bedroom, little tables don't serve much purpose. And there was no fridge but there was a coffeemaker. Our room was clean and smelled okay though the corridor outside smelled moldy.
Front desk staff couldn't have been more helpful, they went out of their way to take care of our needs and questions. The St. Charles streetcar is on the corner and there is a good bakery across the street. We particularly liked our breakfasts at Cafe on the Square, close to the hotel, and we were lucky enough to have one dinner at Herbsaint, a wonderful restaurant across the street and down half a block.
We weren't impressed with the hotel's bar or the bartender. He was more interested in continuing his conversation with some young people than taking care of a couple of oldies. But overall, this was a good place to stay.

Room Tip: Book very early to get a balcony room.

My husband and I stayed for a week that included the first weekend of Jazz Fest. We had a large room on the south side on the fourth floor. We slept well in the comfortable king size bed. We really wished for a fridge in the room, and wanted to open a window, but it was explained that by city ordinance, no hotel windows open in New Orleans. Every single employee of the hotel was friendly and helpful. The location on the trolley line and within walking distance of French Quarter, great grocery store, Mother's for breakfast, Italian food kitty corner, etc. was perfect. We aren't used to paying quite so much for a hotel room of this quality, but it was Jazz Fest week and it was New Orleans.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a fridge.
