“Just back from the Monteleone”
Reviewed 4 November 2011

We just returned from our stay at the Monteleone. It is a wonderful hotel, old, historic and beautiful. The Carousel Lounge is fun. The roof top pool was great - shielded from wind and beautifully sunny. Staff are helpful. The hotel is certainly on the high end which makes some of their charges difficult to understand. For example, computer use in the business center requires a credit card and the first few minutes cost $7; a glass of coke at the pool was $3.75. Its not the money, just seemed like a lot for the quality of the hotel.
Room was small but beautifully appointed and well kept.

Room Tip: Make sure to choose a room on an upper floor to avoid noise from the quarter.

The Monteleone is undergoing renovations, but to accommodate guests, they provide free continental breakfast. The person checking us in was so friendly and helpful. Even though I had stayed here once before, it had been a while and he was helpful at re-orienting me. Bed was very comfortable. Also, we arrived very early (11am) but our room was ready! Rooftop beautiful (even though too cold to swim). Fitness center has more than a bike & a treadmill -- and an awesome view to distract. Central location is great -- but not smack in the middle, so its a bit less crazy. Great staff, nice room (but no view) and excellent location. Highly recommend.

My husband and I just returned from staying 5 nights at Hotel Monteleone and I can't say enough great things about it!

The staff was excellent - always friendly and smiling and happy to help with whatever we needed. They helped us make tour reservations and dinner reservations and were very knowledgable about things to do!

The rooms were very nice and very clean (a little small, but that's to be expected in an old hotel). I would call house keeping each day when we were going out for the day and without fail our room would be clean when we returned.

We were not bothered at all by the renovations. The free breakfast was actually really great - pastries were SO good. There was sometimes a line to get in for breakfast but it always went very fast. They were happy to let you bypass the line if you wanted to just run in and grab your food to go.

Would definitely stay here again!

Attended conference. Normally do not wander much in New Orleans. Hotel is grand, and in remarkable appearance. Everything works. Lobby is charming. Right in French Quarter. Staff was very polite and helpful. Note that this is a crescent of a building and some of the rooms do have views into the middle of crescent and other side of hotel. I like to look outside and this was accommodated. The street below is quite active, but this is New Orleans. You can walk to Canal street and be in a bit normal walking area. But, the French quarter is not my interest. This is one great old hotel and worth the rate they get.

Just a very nice hotel. Old and going through a renovation. I'd stay again in a heartbeat. A place with charm. Can't wait to see if after the renovations are complete.

Having stayed at the Monteleone before, we were really looking forward to our next visit to New Orleans. The staff is always very friendly and the lobby area was clean. The carousel bar area was open during construction but had been reduced in size temporarily while the renovations take place. We enjoyed a preferred king room on the 14th floor but were dissapointed that the network channels were not available in HD. Also disappointing was the $10 per day charge for wireless internet. Everything was great except for the daily 7 am wake up from the construction crew. I will definitely stay at the Monteleone again but will wait until renovations have been completed to return!

Room Tip: Request a higher room if possible to avoid the noise from the quarter.

Very nice hotel right in the heart of the tourist attractions, felt very well looked after from valet right through to room service and housekeeping. Nothing was too much trouble. Rooms a littler smaller than usual but it is an old hotel and built when the room size was acceptable.

The free breakfast got very busy and was waiting 15 minutes in line for a table, but the service was that good no wonder some people stayed and had another coffee etc.

If I ever come back to New Orleans I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Higher floors don't get the street noise, get a river view room.
