“4th Trip to Hotel Monteleone”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 March 2013

We just returned from our 4th trip to NOLA and our 4th stay at the Hotel Monteleone. Once again, we were extremely pleased with our stay. The staff was friendly as always and greeted us warmly at check-in. Our preferred double double room on the 11th floor was huge with a nice view toward Bourbon Street. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. We had a couple of special requests that received immediate attention from both hotel staff and parking attendants. The doormen were helpful and friendly in giving directions, as was the concierge, who recommended the most wonderful candy shop for gifts. The Carousel Bar was great fun, as always, and Lena Prima continues to offer one of the best shows in New Orleans!! She and her band are amazing!

The Hotel Monteleone’s history; perfect location in the Quarter; friendly, accommodating staff; clean, comfortable rooms; and Carousel Bar keep us coming back again and again.

Room Tip: It has been our personal experience and opinion that preferred king rooms have better views (river/Q...

We have stayed at the best hotels and lodging in NOLA over the years including the Windsor Court, Soniat, Audubon Cottages, Royal Orleans, Sonesta, etc. By far this was our most enjoyable stay. The staff was gracious, warm and friendly, and the old Grand Dame was wonderful.

Just returned from a short 3-night stay in NO (wife's first time, my first time in 20 yrs) and we couldn't have been happier with the Monteleone. It's really a beautiful hotel and met our needs perfectly. We had a preferred king on the 11th floor with a nice view overlooking the Mississippi. A comfortable bed, reasonable quietness, and great room darkening drapes meant a good night's sleep. The concierge provided solid advice for finding entertainment to our liking and was able to get us in at Mr. B's when I realized we had forgotten to make reservations before leaving home.

There were only 2 small downsides. First, the tiny bathroom. Space is clearly at a premium, so there's nothong that can be done about it, but, there simply is not enough room to have your toiletries out on the sink. Second, the pool was very nice, but, unfortunately the pool bar had not opened yet for the season leaving "room service" as the only option for beverages.

We spent quite a bit of time at the Carousel Bar. The bartenders are true mixologists and the place was really hopping to the The Prima Jazz Band.

We chose the Monteleone over the Royal Sonesta for not wanting to be right on Bourbon street. I think that was the right choice especially over St. Patrick's Day weekend. Maybe on a slower weekend or during the week we might try RS, because it seemed lovely also.

They advertise this as a luxury hotel but if you have ever stayed at the Four Seasons or any other real luxury hotel you would know what you are missing. You pull up there is no one to take your luggage and if you want to store your luggage before check in you must carry it over to the valet office to store it. We were two mature ladies and there was no bellman service and we had to carry our bags. Then when you give you the tags they have the audacity to look for a tip. So I ask if my bags will be delivered to my room ? The answer was NO. I had to come back and carry the luggage up to my room. This is only one story...there are many. So beware. The Montelone charges luxury prices but does not give the service.

Overall, I really enjoyed my stay and my room.
-my room was great and the view of the river was amazing (great sunrises!)
-very nice exercise room and pool deck
-fridge in the room was a nice extra, especially since I was staying for a week
-the hotel lobby is magnificent and very comfortable
-staff: with the exception of the front door staff, everyone was great. I found the front door staff aloof.

Why not a 5/5?
-front door staff
-given the price of the room, I think local calls and wifi should be included for free

Room Tip: Room 1584, quiet, river view with spectacular sunrises!

There just isn't a better place to stay in the Quarter. The Carousel Bar was just wonderful. Parker and Eddie will take EXCELLENT care of you. As for breakfast, do yourself a favor and make your way to their restaurant called Criollo for their breakfast buffet. Made to order omelets are wonderful and Kathy will provide you with EXCEPTIONAL service.
The pool on the roof is nothing short of an oasis. I lost an entire afternoon there and loved every minute.
Again, why would you stay anywhere else??

Room Tip: If you're willing to spend a bit more money, do yourself a favor and book a Preferred Room and b...

Upon check I was told to come back at 3pm since I arrived early. At 3pm I was told that my room wasn't ready and that check is was from 3-5. I was annoyed and asked for a manager. She was very nice and found me another room that was ready. However, this room with 2 double beds was teeny. At that point I didn't want to complain.

We requested a later check out and this was flat out refused. We mentioned our troubles checking in but were still refused.

The carousel bar never has seats because people just sit there all day even if they aren't drinking (very annoying). When you try to get a drink you have to fight for bartenders attention if there is even more than 1 working.

The gift shop ran out of water when we tried to purchase some.

So many little annoyances. Won't be going back!
