“Nice place, good location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 January 2013

My wife and I stayed at the Omni Crescent the last week of November, 2012. It was our first trip to New Orleans and we were leary of staying in the french Quarter. This hotel is a 5-10 minute walk to Canal and Bourbon streets. We felt safe in the area of the hotel although we weren't out real late at night. On our first day we found the desk staff a bit preoccupied and sort of rude to us, but from then on everyone was great. Very friendly and helpful and always spoke to us when we passed through the lobby. We ate breakfast in the restaurant our first morning and the food was good, but pricey for what we got. Our room was nice, clean and the furniture was good, but our king size bed left a lot to be desired. It seemed to have a dip in the middle, and if we didn't each stay right to our repective edges, we kind of rolled into the centre. After 5 nights my back was shot. All in all a good hotel, if you get a good bed. Probably won't stay there again as we didn't really like New Orleans very much.

Though west of Canal Street (but only 2 blocks) and in the Central Business District, this hotel is situated on a relatively quiet block within easy walking distance to the French Quarter, Harrah's, and a startling variety of very fine restaurants. The building is a well-done rehab surrounded by many handsome older edifices (warehouses and such). My king-size bed room, though a bit small to accommodate the large furniture, was nicely proportioned, but with a huge bathroom with marble floors, a marble-lined tub/shower, top-of-the-line amenities and copious linens. The over-all color scheme was a light ocher or gold with "arty" matted and framed photos. The 'I don't want to leave this" king-sized bed was framed by solid and commodious end tables with handsome lamps and tall mirrors. The room's windows were HUGE whose large individual panes are probably more aptly measured in square footage rather than inches.

Service here is friendly and over-the-top accommodating. Kendall, at the front desk, is a wonderful ambassador for the hotel. She offered me a mini-fridge to chill insulin feeling that the "chiller" in the room probably wouldn't do the job adequately (and at no charge!). Just why there's even a "chiller" escapes me as the hotel, while having ice machines on alternate floors, has no vending machines. Huh? Brandi and Eric on another shift at the front desk were also helpful and one can take a Granny Smith apple from that counter during the day. Jenny in Dress It, the hotel's restaurant (though, I think, run as a separate enterprise) is a wonderful and eager-to-please server. She remembered my name, was unfailingly helpful to not only me but all her guests, and made everyone feel cosseted and welcome. Dress It is NOT one of New Orleans' "destination" restaurants. It's "menu" is a check-the-boxes affair consisting mainly of sandwiches with hamburgers with a wide array of toppings and breads being the obvious faves. However, don't overlook the excellent gumbo, the red beans and rice with spicy sausage, or the Crescent salad. All are excellent. There is only ONE dessert item on this and the room service menu - an undistinguished cookie and ice cream affair which can be easily shared. The breakfast buffet is adequate - the cold items being preferable over the hot ones (which, as with most breakfast buffets, never are!). The Commerce Restaurant across the street is a better breakfast bet. Just down the street is Chuck's, a 24-hour sports bar that looks, uh, "intriguing." However, you're steps away from the New Orleans Chophouse, August, and the glamorous Sunday brunch at the Windsor Court Hotel. Also steps away are the Charles and Canal Street trolley lines.

The lobby is essentially square but made to look octagonal owing to the ceiling design. It has a somewhat French feel to it with wall murals, an antique grandfather clock, and an adjoining tasteful seating area with one computer and printer. With fewer than 100 rooms, this hostelry probably falls into the "boutique" category. One is definitely made to feel welcome and at home. I felt positively spoiled by the excellent staff here - from managerial to housekeeping and maintenance folks.

I Completely enjoyed a long New Year's weekend at Omni Royal Crescent. Staff were great, beds super comfy, decor perfect for this boutique-like hotel. Had a nice king room with partial view, flat screen t.v. coffee maker and refrigerator. Jetted pool on rooftop deck was awesome and the sauna and workout space overlooking the deck was clean, functional and a pleasure to use.

I have been to New Orleans a number of times and this is definitely on my short list for lodging when I am in town. The location is very convenient not only to the French Quarter, but also the Aquarium of the Americas, Harrah's Casino (if you're into that), and other riverfront attractions.

It is in your best interest to sign up for the Omni Rewards program.

Room Tip: You may want to request a room with an unobstructed view as I have heard some windows look out to a...

My travels to New Orleans have covered 34 years (since I was a teenager) and I have stayed at many hotels in and near the quarter. My critera is clean, safe location and a fair value. Historical or unique is a plus.

The Omni Royal Crescent is a great hotel. The rooms are average size but well designed with functional furnishings. It is located two blocks from the quarter in an area west of Canal. A nice bonus is Mother's Restaurant is only 2 blocks away.

When you check in the front desk staff enthusiastically greets you. If you join Omni Rewards you can pre-check in and then you just show your ID. Plus a handwritten welcome letter from the manager, free room service breakfast beverages and free internet (9.95/day if you are not a member).

The rooms are clean and ours included a small fridge and a coffee maker. The toiletries are actually usable and decent sized. But the shower is strange. It has a glass door that only covers half and it folds out. It works but water goes all over the floor - shower curtains would be better. Internet speed is very good.

I have stayed in most hotels in the CBD in New Orleans, including all that are within 6 blocks of this hidden gem. For this trip, the other hotels didn't have king beds available or were booked up. So we took a chance on the Omni Royal Crescent. We have found a new favorite in New Orleans! Staff was super friendly, Brandi's reception was the best I have experienced in years - and she was a concierge too - you would have thought I was one of their most frequent guests the way I was treated. Had two other couples stay there with us and they also raved about the hotel. The hotel is updated, tastefully decorated and ideally located away from the hustle and bustle, yet is only 2 blocks from the French Quarter and 2 blocks from Restaurant August. We did not experience any street noise - our room fronted Camp Street. flat Screen TV and wifi worked flawlessly. I had noticed this property in the past but it looks unassuming and doesnt appear to be anything special on the outside - what a surprize. I am so glad we booked this, and before we left we booked another 3 night stay in May!

Room Tip: My room facing Camp Street was quiet.

Walked past this place on the way to the French Quarter and were unimpressed. Alas, check in was handled smoothly, and the handwritten note from the manager welcoming us was a nice touch. Front desk staff were polite and booked out cab back to the airport, which was appreciated. Room was decent. Flat screen t.v. and new amenities. Beds were comfortable, and traffic noise was quiet. However, should be mentioned that it's easy to hear through the walls... and sometimes, you don't want to... especially late at night when your neighbours have been out in the French Quarter and get back feeling 'frisky'

We're glad you enjoyed your stay overall. Also we're happy to provide ear plugs if you are hearing noise from outside traffic or your neighbors.

Friendly helpful staff, rooms were clean and average size for NOLA. We could hear a lot of street noise but it wasn't enough to keep us from sleeping. Great location, easy to walk to French Quarter. Would definitely stay there again.
