The French Quarter can get crazy at times so it is nice to know that there is a place you can escape it all. The Hotel Mazarin is just that kind of place.
This is our second visit to the Mazarin. We stayed here year before last for Jazzfest and came back again. We would have stayed last year, but they were already booked.
We drove this time so we Valet parked. The car was well taken care of across the street in the shared garage till our check out. The day we were leaving the Valet even placed our luggage in the trunk while we enjoyed the last day of Jazzfest for thate first weekend. It made it easy when we finally left.
From the moment you walk through the doors everyone is very helpful and polite. Check in is very easy and quick. Help is their if you need it to get your bags to your room or you can self serve as we did. We were happy to find that the cookies at the front desk were still their in the glass jar.
Our room this time was a Superior King. It is a nice room with marble floor and we had a window looking down on Bienville St. The room was very clean and well equipped. Mini fridge with waters, coffee maker, tv (which we never watched), desk, chair, and a nice leather chair with ottoman. The bed is comfortab le and maybe a little soft for our liking, but did not keep us from having a good nights sleep. They provide lots of pillows on the bed. The big rectangle ones we could not get as comfortable with so we just used the regular pillows. Its a preference and they do not lose marks because of it. The bathroom has ample room and plenty of space for all of your accesories. This suite had a shower and provided shampoo. conditioner, and body wash under their own label. I used it and it seemed fine. The towels are of decent weight and they will replenish daily if you like. A nice lighted magnifying mirror. My wife loves these. The bathroom has plenty of room to move about and not feel cramped.
We did not have a lot of noise from Bourbon street, but this is New Orleans and when you stay this close to that street you must expect a certain amount. We slept just fine all 3 nights. When people would walk by on the walkway on our floor you could hear them talking, but again it's a hotel and we are not the only ones. Some rooms look out over the courtyard and some the street with a few having balconies. We missed the balcony overlooking Bienvill this time though.
The Courtyard is nice with a fountain and table to either visit or eat the breakfast buffet provided with your room every morning. The buffet we looked forward to each morning and remembered from our last visit. It was as good. Coffee, juice, sausage, bacon, eggs, grits, and pancakes are the main offerings. You can also have somehting from the selection of breads and pastries. Cereal is also provided as is fruit cups. This is a good buffet and well worth it.
I can't really say anything bad about the Mazarin. Two years later it is every bit as well run and maintained as it was after they took the property over before we stayed the first time. We we stay here next time we come back to the Big easy unless we can't get a room.
Location is excellent. Service is solid and friendly.
The Hotel Mazarin is a great find and we love it.
