This is a beautiful hotel, very close to the French Quarter, but not with all the noise associated with it. The lobby is small, a little too small, I think, but gorgeous with a beautiful chandelier. There was a large group of people with luggage waiting for a ride and the lobby was overflowing - only 3 small couches - not large enough. We had to walk through and around this large group to get to the courtyard. The courtyard is also beautiful with a large fountain in the middle of it, a good place to eat breakfast. The breakfast was nice, not elaborate, but nice enough. The room we had was gorgeous, with black marble on the floor and in the shower. Again,I loved the chandelier in the room. A particular favorite of mine.
The reasons why the hotel is not rated 5 stars is (1) most of the staff were not friendly - the smiles were phony, didn't really want to serve, just looking for a tip. The hotel desk clerk in particular acted as if he were doing us a big favor whenever we asked him any questions, and (2) inside our room were floor rugs that rolled up at the corners. Not safe! I tripped and almost fell on one of those turned up corners.
