“Very good standard in the heart of the French Quarter”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 April 2013

This is a Sonesta Hotel, so you expect a certain standard, and this one delivers. The rooms, beds, bedding, bathroom and amenities are all very good, and staff are friendly and helpful. Unfortunately (for me, anyway), it's on the sleaziest part of Bourbon Street, so you will find yourself dodging the strip bar traffic in the evening, and the noise is not really conducive to getting a good night's sleep. Expect some revelers in the hotel to slam doors, yell and laugh all through the night.

You can do worse in the French Quarter, much worse.

Room Tip: I would ask for a room facing Conti Street, as high as possible, to minimize noise from Bourbon Stre...

This is a super nice hotel right on Bourbon St. Very well kept, super clean, and good customer service all around. I had a side street balcony room off of Conti St. It was pretty awesome, with the double french doors leading out to the balcony. Some say not to get a balcony room if you want peace and quiet, that is probably true if you are on the Bourbon St side, but on a side street, it wasn't bad at all. A little noisy from time to time, but I like to be able to feel the French Quarter vibe even in my room, so it was perfect for me. Room was spotless, comfortable bed, and a stocked wet bar. You are right in the heart of the French Quarter, so super easy walking distance to anything in the Quarter. The only caution I can give to those that have never been to Nola but want to visit, if you have kids, this hotel (although beautiful and an oasis from the Bourbon St crowds) is located in the strip bar section on Bourbon St. Other than that, it's a high quality 4 star hotel and highly recommend.

Room Tip: Get a balcony room is you want a view of the Quarter. Garden/pool side room if you want total peace...

Hotel is exceptional all around!!! Stayed here 5 nights for a conference.
Staff is top notch! Very accommodating! Beautiful king balcony room, can be loud at times but to be expected since it faces Bourbon Street. Just bring a fan to help with the noise :)
It is wonderful to wake up in the morning and have coffee on the balcony. Great food at the Desire restaurant in the hotel.
Highly recommend this hotel and must try a balcony room on Bourbon at least once.

My husband and I live in New Orleans and stayed in the Quarter to celebrate our anniversary. We chose the Royal Sonesta because of its location and reputation and were thrilled with our experience. We stayed in a two-story suite on the second floor that opened by a back door onto the pool. The room was really nice; we only wish it had been warm enough to use the pool bc it looked beautiful. Staff at the desk in both the evening and the morning were extremely professional, friendly, and fast. All the staff we ran into were super helpful and nice. Ate at R'evolution downstairs: absolutely fantastic in every way. We've eaten at almost all of the nice restaurants in the city many times, since we live here, and this rivaled our very favorite (Restaurant August). Great atmosphere, amazing service, and the food was incredible. Every course was special and delicious. We also ate at the diner (Cafe Beignet?) for breakfast and it was very good as well, with great service. We will definitely stay at the Sonesta the next time we play tourist in our home town.

Room Tip: Second floor suite that faced the pool in the back was quiet and would be perfect in the late Spring...

I had always wanted to travel to New Orleans and see what all the fuss was about. I finally had a great opportunity to visit this year over spring break. I thought if anything, pick the best hotel available and stay closest to the French Quarter. Well...let's just say I expected more than I got.

First and foremost the hotel was soooo expensive for what it offered. When we first arrived for valet parking - we waited in the underground garage nearly 20 minutes before we were attended too. Luckily, a young lady came by to see if we had been helped - big shout out to J. Entering the hotel to check in gives the impression of royalty but that was as good as it got. Checking in was simple enough and the front desk attendant was polite. We finally reached our room and to my astonishment, the room was small and very outdated. The window overlooked nothing. I expected that $300 a night would get you a nice view and more appeal. Perhaps that was to be my only dissappointment - not true...there was more to come.

Leaving the hotel to walk the streets, two doorman stood outside. They should be called door watchers because they certainly did not open doors. In fact, I was not pleased with customer service at all. I think for the amount of money spent, retaining repeat business would be most important a little courtesy goes a long way. The following day we went off to sight see and returned several hours later to find our room as it was when we left it. We did come back a little after 1pm - the whole day we waited for housekeeping to clean the room and no one ever came.

I am a strong believer of giving credit when warranted and ending things on a positive note - however, in this case I cannot find anything positive to say. New Orleans is not for everyone - perhaps just those in their twenties or the wild at heart. A relaxing vacation this isn't -but it is always good to experience at least once.

So for this particular hotel - don't waste your money. With the ornate reception area which appears to give the indication that the rest of the hotel is just as elegant - don't get your hopes up. You will soon realize that the money you spent on "luxury" is really going to pay their light bill.

Twogirlstraveling (not here again - that's for sure!)

Our first visit to New Orleans and we were glad to have stayed in the Sonesta Hotel. The lobby is beautiful filled with flowers and several water fountains. Our plane had been delayed and even at 1AM the hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Our deluxe room with 2 beds (just wish they were queen size) nice size bathroom was always kept clean by the staff. The room faced the pool area, which is lovely and away from Bourbon St which was noisy. If you are going to visit this city you should stay in the French Quarter and the Sonesta is right in the middle of everything. If you need to take a streetcar, the St. Charles is only a few blocks away. Other than that you can walk to every site you may want to visit in the French Quarter. The hotel also has several wonderful restaurants and a great Jazz club.

Room Tip: It faces Bourbon St. So if you want quiet get a room facing the pool area.

Spent 4 nights here 3/27-3/31 for our wedding anniversay with another couple and booked this hotel as a package with Southwest Airlines-the Hotel and location are great! Have been to NOLA 2 times this year and looked forward to staying here for the location. Be aware that if you do not book directly with the hotel you are definitely not treated the same, told this at the front desk at check in and belong to their "frequent guest" program. We had an early morning flight into NOLA, gave our cell phone numbers when rooms would beready, never got a call, went there at 3:30, room was available, no explanation why we were not notified. Front desk staff in the morning was not very pleasant or helpful.

We lucked out, did get a room with a balcony overlooking Conti St,--great view and you can see to the corner of Bourbon St. Our friends were not as lucky, had an air conditioner view, no outside entry, windows not able to open even though it was a smoking room. They tried unsuccessfully to upgrade to a balcony room. The entire 2nd floor is a smoking floor.

If you like early morning coffee be aware that there are no in-room coffee makers, Yes, you can have one delivered to your room, pay the fee for delivery of one and pay daily for the coffee pods--$7.00 daily for the pods.

Liked the hotel, and location, beautiful Courtyard, Restaurants were very good--see further reviews.

Room Tip: Stayed in room 2188, balcony overlooking Conti St. one block from Bourbon St. Did not hear any noi...
