After my sister and i decide on staying in New Orleans for a couple of days after our cruise. We looked at a few hotels then settled on the Royal Sonesta. From the moment we arrived we treated with a smile from the man who helped us from the taxi. To person checking us in he made sure we had a clean and ready room even at 10:00 am. To the bellman that helped us to our room. Housekeeping was very good at there job I never so much as thought something was unclean. No with being said I will mention that if your a light sleeper as that they don't put you in a room that faces Bourbon St. Even thougt we were on the 5th floor we could still hear the music. Which didn't bother us to much.

We are so pleased that you chose to extend your cruise vacation at the Royal Sonesta Hotel after arriving in New Orleans. Thank you for your review and your compliments on our housekeeping and guest room cleanliness. We are sorry to read of the noise that you experienced, but please know that 80% of our guest room inventory is located off of Bourbon Street. On future stays with us we hope to accommodate you in one of those many rooms. Thanks again!

Celebrating our 39th Anniversary we decided to do a " STAY-VACATION". My husband talked me into allowing him to plan our special weekend. Not even knowing where we were going until that day from the moment we were welcomed and acknowledged of our anniversary by Chris the rest was like being in Disney World. Ms Mae ( manager of in- room services) had conversation with my husband the whole week assuring him she would take care of his wishes. When we entered our room we both were bought to tears . Ms Keshia served us our in room dinner with much love. She also went out her way to please and compliment us. And last but not least Ms Ashley assisted us with our request for late check- out . She made our departure as memorable as our arrival. Thanks again staff of RS for a JOB WELL DONE !!! We shall return

Room Tip: Bed was very comfortable but do not get a balcony on Bourbon if you cannot tolerate a lot of noise...

I loved this hotel overall. The location was perfect and room quite comfortable. I'm a big fan of old hotels and well aware that they all have certain charms that one must deal with.

When we arrived, we were given a room with one king bed. We had booked a room with two double beds. A call down to the desk and we were informed that no other rooms were available but they would send up a rollaway bed. Not a big problem but an unnecessary inconvenience.

The real issue was the next morning. At 7:27 am, we were awakened by the sounds of screaming children playing in the pool outside. This wasn't just a yell every now and then but constant squeals and screams as kids were jumping in the pool. I called down to the desk to ask if there were quiet hours for the pool and was told that no, there were not. Being on Bourbon Street, it's not unreasonable to expect that people have been out late the night before and would enjoy some quiet morning hours in order to sleep.

I enjoyed this hotel but will seek accommodation elsewhere next time simply based on the staff's unwillingness to keep things quiet for their guests.

We really appreciate your taking the time to share this feedback of your recent stay with us. We apologize for being unable to accommodate your request for a double room and that you were disturbed by other guests in the hotel who took advantage of our sunrise to sunset pool hours. For future stays with us please know that we do offer other room types in the interior of the hotel that are not directly near the pool and may provide you with more restful mornings.

Really loved staying here and the staff was so delightful. The pool was very large and featured a bar which a lot of other hotels in the area didn't. The second you walk out the front door you are in the center of Bourbon St. You really couldn't pick a better location or hotel!

This was the best hotel experience I have ever had. Entering the hotel from Bourbon Street was like stepping into a another dimension. The jazz in the lounge was exceptional. Considering the amount of noise on Bourbon Street, it was completely quiet when you entered the hotel. The beds were very comfortable and the staff very pleasant and accommodating. I just loved it.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good.

Ardeen, we are absolutely delighted that you had such a great experience recently at our hotel, from your guest room to the attentive service! We’re so glad that you had the opportunity to visit Irvin Mayfield’s Jazz Playhouse and hope that you will stay with us at the Royal Sonesta Hotel again!

I've wanted to stay at the Royal Sonesta for years, and my desire to do so was heightened by the excellent Irvin Mayfield's Jazz Playhouse and Restaurant Revolution, both on the premises. The facilities are nice, classically French Quarter as I had hoped. The staff are helpful by in large. And I really appreciated getting excellent food (and coffee from PJ's) and music without leaving the premises. Having said that, I was disappointed. I had always wondered whether or not the noise of Bourbon Street would be a problem, but never imagined that the noise would come from the inside. We were poolside, which meant that we endured daily and raucous parties at the pool with loud music (not even the music of New Orleans). And given the age of the hotel, the noise of other visitors was audible in a way that I haven't experience. I also found that my room was not well attended to and the service staff less than helpful. I value service staff as they perform hard and thankless tasks. But the folks on my floor needed customer service training.

There are a lot of great places to stay in New Orleans. But I think I'll be joining the numbers of folks who are looking outside of the Quarter for really good and reasonable accommodations. While I would recommend the Royal Sonesta to anyone who wishes to drop some money to stay in the Quarter, I would not encourage them to do so with the same expectations that I had.
