“Wedding Weekend Stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 January 2014

We recently stayed at this hotel for a wedding at the hotel. Overall, this is a great location if you will be in New Orleans. The hotel is really beautiful. The only negative I would say is that the bed/mattress in the room was not comfortable at all. Also, in the bathroom, the design of where the sink is, actually limits the amount of space in the bathroom. However, overall, it is a older building and cosmetic issues are present (older carpet, wallpaper needs changing, etc.) but it is a good hotel and the place to be if you want to stay in the French Quarter.

Room Tip: If you need a room that is quieter, ask for one that does not face the streets.

Todd, we really appreciate your feedback as a local. We’re sorry for the cosmetic issues you’ve pointed out, but please know that our 3rd floor guestrooms have been recently renovated and we have plans to renovate the remaining hotel rooms by the end of this year. When you have the opportunity, we hope that you will remember to visit us at the Royal Sonesta Hotel for another stay-cation in the French Quarter.

I can only speak for our room opening to the inside court, but the room was fabulous. The French doors open directly onto the large patio surrounding the swimming pool and nice foliage. Sunshine and breeze feels like the Caribbean. Each room has a small table with chairs outside. the outside is good for smokers, too.

The room is plush with elegant furniture used in a combination that feels like a palace.

Some rooms on the exterior of the building have French doors opening onto a Bourbon Street balcony or other side streets. The R-Club level has more amenities but without doors opening to the outside.

There are restaurants and a bar within the lobby area which also includes a coffee bar with take out food if you would like to eat in your room or balcony or patio.

Walk out the door of the hotel and you are there in the heart of NOLA.

We spent two nights at this hotel, the service was excellent, the staff very friendly all the time. We were celebrating a birthday and the sent a bottle of a very good French champagne as a courtesy of the hotel. I recommend this hotel at any time but I do not like the location.

Room Tip: Request a room facing the gardens , room are quieter.

First I have to give top praise to the service staff, from the valet in the garage to the cleaning ladies absolutely every single one I came across ALWAYS greeted me with a smile & eye contact.....being from Texas, I appreciate that type of attention to personal contact !! The hotel is pristine, fresh gorgeous flowers EVERYWHERE, never had to look for help, the staff pay close attention to your needs & seem to always know if we were needing something! We stayed on 7 floor, R Club level, breakfast served every morning & cocktails/ appetizers every evening! The bed was amazingly comfortable & bathrooms are very nice with whirlpool tub. The location was perfect, several couples were here with us but stayed at different hotels, our hotel was our gathering point for everyone because of the bourbon street location, hotel bar is pricey but the atmosphere and decor made up for the cost of drinks ! To sum up our stay I would say its our new preference when visiting NOLA

The Royal Sonesta has the best group of courteous and friendly staff. I like that you only have one valet and one bellcaptain to tip for getting you to your room not four like other large hotels. This hotel is just my favorite.

Room Tip: The room near the pool are great with the courtyard and the R Club was a quiet room experience.

My wife and I spent 5 nights at the RS. From first driving up and being greeted by Malcolm, the best doorman in all of New Orleans, to check-in, to the excellent bellman Shaun, it was outstanding all the way. We had requested a room on the "quiet" side of the hotel and we were given one. The room was spotless, well lighted, and attractive. The bed was just what we like, but the pillows were too soft for me. My wife travels with her own pillow. Plenty of hot water with very good pressure, and a perfect job by housekeeping every day. All the staff was friendly, attentive, and went the extra step to make sure needs were met. The various dining and bar venues were great as well. This hotel is right on Bourbon Street, so you can access that instantly. Also, short walks to many of the attractions in and near the French Quarter. We'll stay here again any time we come to New Orleans.

Room Tip: We had been told by prior guests that street side rooms can be noisy, so we requested a quiet room a...

We spent 3 days on Bourbon St and decided to stay on the strip. After researching the options we were a bit worried from the various reviews. This was mostly due in part that the general consensus were less than good. 2 of us opted for balcony rooms the last picked a garden view.

The lobby is very nice and welcoming, there are no coffee makers in room but there is a PJ's coffee shop in the hotel.

The balcony rooms did show wear but nothing that isn't expected due to the clientele. Our rooms all on the 3rd floor overlooked Bienville Ave which was ok - we requested rooms in close proximately. Street noise is minimum never were we woken up by street cleaning. The view was simple just looking at the property across the street. They did honor our request as the two balcony rooms were only separated by one room the third was around the corner. Balcony is sufficient we simply navigated the 3 ft gap between the 2 and could access the others room.

The garden view room overlooked the pool, was furnished like the other rooms. All beds were comfortable and the shower had nice water pressure.

Other than the coffee shop we only used the in house restaurant Desire Bistro & Oyster bar. We went for breakfast, the service was terrible. All 6 of us had food or drink spilled on us, including my wife getting burned from her tea. We did not return.

The pool was a nice option in the morning after a hard night, it is heated, during our stay the ambient temp hovered in the 40's and the water temp was about right.

The staff was courteous and welcoming, the door man was talkative which we dubbed "The Count"

We would stay again, location was spot on in regards to the night life.

Thank you for your review of our property. We are very happy to hear you enjoyed the local nightlife, as well as your balcony overlooking Bienville Street. We are, however, very disappointed to hear that your experience at Desire did not live up to your expectations. We are truly sorry that the service was not up to our Royal Sonesta standards, and we will be discussing this with our staff to insure incidents like this do not occur again. Please know that incidents like this one are isolated, and we usually hear great things about the service and food at Desire. We hope you will consider the Royal Sonesta when planning future travels, we would love the opportunity to create a more memorable experience for you.
