“Great Club Level”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 May 2014

Another couple and I celebrated my wife's birthday by staying 3 nights at the Club level of the RS Hotel. We had a great time and my wife really enjoyed her birthday. Free breakfast in the morning and free hors d'oeuvres from 5:00-7:00. Very friendly and attentive staff with an absolutely superb concierge on the Club level. Rooms were reasonably nice - I was told they are going to be upgraded soon, so do not know how available they will be later this year. Probably most convenient (and I believe the best) hotel for Bourbon Street and the French Quarter. While the Club level rooms are somewhat more expensive; the amenities and service more than made up for the increased cost.

Room Tip: The Club level rooms are away from the noise of Bourbon street

After my second stay within a year, I am pleased to report that the welcome and service I received at the Royal Sonesta and Revolution has been consistent and outstanding. This will always be my first choice when visiting New Orleans and I am happy to recommend it to others.

Hotel is in the most desired location on Bourbon St. The front entrance and Hotel Lobby are just beautiful; as is the entire first floor. It is an old building, but they have done well to appoint the rooms as well as possible. The furnishings in our King Deluxe Room were beautiful, although a bit impractical in the bath area. Lighting in the bath area was not bright enough for older eyes to see. Closet space was extremely small. Bed and bed linens were easy on the eye and great to sleep on. Although on the street side (3rd floor), the noise from Bourbon St below was not a problem. Corner balconey provided a lovely view.

Lynne, thank you for staying with us at the Royal Sonesta Hotel New Orleans. We appreciate your feedback on the comfortable, quiet accommodations and need for brighter lighting in the restroom. We hope you will visit us again next year after our hotel-wide renovations are complete and these concerns will be addressed.

05/20/14 we stayed at the RS. First the bad. We went out on the balcony after a late concert and our key wouldn't work to get back in! Phones and ID were in the room so thank goodness we were dressed to go to the lobby to get another key to go through the door. Staff was nonchalant and said it's not uncommon. The sheer curtains were torn and unkempt looking and lamp shades very dusty. Upon leaving, we were told by phone that we had to formally (get in line) check out to get valet parking validation, but when we checked out, were told that wasn't necessary as it had already been charged. For the nightly price, none of the above should be issues. Now the good. LOCATION! It just isn't possible to get better in the French Quarter. Our room was also larger than many in the Quarter.

We are thrilled that you as locals chose to stay at our hotel after your fun night out on the town! We are very sorry that our staff was not more sympathetic to your being locked out your room and for the miscommunication of standing in line that you experienced at check-out. Thank you for the feedback on room issues – they will be addressed. We hope that you will try staying with us again in the future or at another one of our Sonesta properties.

We travel a lot & are gold, platinum (or above) members of most hotel reward chains. While the hotel was cosmetically very nice I did have some issues. First, the walls are so thin you can hear everything that is going on in the adjoining rooms especially the bathroom & I do mean everything. Nothing like being awakened by a flush, a shower (or worse) in the middle of the night. The AC was inadequate. It never cooled down & the thermostat stopped at 65 but I can tell you the room was in no way 65 degrees, ever. This was not helped by the fact that the linens were scratchy, the bed lumpy , the inappropriate heavy down comforter or the tic-tac sized-down pillows that you had to roll just to have some semblance of support for one's head or neck. I still hurt from the experience. Other factors were the shower head had come apart, the wallpaper was coming off the walls & the carpet was so sticky & filthy that I choose to wear shoes instead of walking on whatever it was that made it sticky. I would have loved to have had a complementary coffee even a complementary water with the room. Checking in was difficult & even though I had a printed copy of my reservations with details of the room I would have been stuck with something else had I not pointed it out to the front desk clerk who seemed to always be on the "up-sale". All in all the most enticing aspect of the Royal Sonesta, NOLA was it's location not it's amenities or staff.

Kim, we are disappointed to read that your stay was not what you expected – we apologize. Please note that a hotel-wide renovation is planned for 2015 which will address everything in the room from top to bottom, including the AC. Also, our in-room plans include future coffee makers. We hope you will consider us again after our renovations.

We stayed at the Royal Sonesta in May 2014. It is right in the heart of everything. Staff were very friendly. We asked for a quiet room and quite enjoyed it. Not much of a view outside, but that was OK with us. It was crazy busy outside, and we didn't hear a thing. Bourbon Street is a lot of fun, with bands in every bar. Not too far from Cafe Du Monde, the river, shopping etc.

Room Tip: You can ask for a quiet room away from the noise, or a room overlooking Bourbon St or Conti St. Not...

I stayed at the hotel as part of a vacation to take in Jazz Fest in April 2014. My partner and I opted for a Bourbon Street Balcony room on the second floor. My sister and brother-in-law also stayed on the second floor in a balcony room off Bourbon Street.

You cannot pick a better location if you want to be in the heart of the French Quarter scene. The hotel is nearly at ground zero for all that is going on in the quarter. The on-site hotel bar is actually a pretty phenomenal jazz experience in the evening. I highly recommend, but be aware once they run out of seating, they do not allow anyone else in. I actually was thankful for that as it made the experience easy to enjoy in comfort.

Our days were mostly spent away from the hotel, so I did not use the spa, fitness, or pool facilities. I did enjoy coffee and the morning news on my tablet in the pool area one morning. It was very relaxing. If I were to stay here again I would opt for a pool level or interior room. Although our exterior room was one of their premium rooms, I realize now I would rather have a place to escape the chaos for a time rather than have a view onto it.

The professional reviewers rate this hotel higher. I rated this at only 3 stars. There are a few ways the hotel could improve the experience.

1. Our room furnishings were clean and comfortable, but a bit threadbare and run down.
2. The wired internet port was installed but had no network service connected to it.
3. The wireless internet signal was quite poor and barely better than old fashion dial up.
4. The room lacked a basic guide about the hotel, services, surroundings that the average Motel 6 would have. This is merely representative of a lack of attention to the details.
5. Housekeeping told us they were aware the installed refrigerators do not work inside the media cabinet due to poor ventilation. Everything inside is hot. If they know about it, why is it so? (They did have a smaller rental unit we had delivered at an up charge which did work quite well.)

At $500 a night, the hotel can afford to do a better job at all these things and get more of the details right. It is these things that would probably sway my business elsewhere on a future trip.

Room Tip: The interior facing rooms are quieter while the exterior ones have a view on to the evening rowdy ch...

Jeff, thank you for choosing our hotel as your home base during Jazz Fest this year. We are happy to see you enjoyed our courtyards, Irvin Mayfield’s Jazz Playhouse and our PJ’s Coffee Cafe. Please do try our interior patio room next time you visit. We are looking forward to a hotel-wide renovation that is planned for 2015 and will enhance the look of all our guest rooms. Your comments on the WiFi are being addressed by our IT director and in-room books with the details you mentioned are being printed next week. We would like the opportunity to have you back soon for a better experience.
