Stayed for 3 nights in late March 2011. Inside balcony room on the 3rd floor. Large clean room and very quiet dispite being only 1/2 block off Bourbon St. Front desk (Peter and Dana were great) very helpful info on tours and restaurants. Hotel parking is on site and inside. Included breakfast isn't much, but biegnets at the Cafe Du Monde isn't far away.
Was able to get discount hotel rate coupon at Louisiana Plantation Visitors Center.

Room Tip: Suggest inside balcony room for quiet and view.

Probably no coincidence that we share in common with previous posters who mentioned noise that we visited during Mardi Gras or spring break. But, it seems that every week in New Orleans is an occasion for SOMEONE to party, so maybe this problem isn't so rare. The hotel is beautiful and our private balcony looked out over a pretty tropical courtyard. But, the courtyard and it's pool were also the source of our only concern: the yard is surrounded by 5-story brick walls and noise seems to reverberate and amplify when the inevitable drunken fools go swimming at 5am. Even if people are speaking normally around the patio at night, their every word seems to travel upward into the rooms. But, I shouldn't have started with our (rather minor) complaint, though. In any case, the noise problem was easily solved by shutting our patio doors when we had to. Our stay was delightful - the staff, both housekeeping and front desk were friendly and helpful, the rooms are well-appointed and attractive, our balcony was a delight, and the place really wasn't THAT noisy considering you're a half-block from Bourbon St. We would recommend the St. Marie, but don't get a room this close to Bourbon and then complain that there were too many noisy drunks.

We arrived early and were greeted by friendly and helpful staff. They found a room that was ready and we were able to change and get ready to start our New Orleans experience. The room was clean, bathroom spotless and we had a balcony room overlooking the pool. The TV was an older style but hey, you're in New Orleans, you aren't supposed to be watching TV anyway! The first night was a little chilly for me but I left a message for housekeeping and they found me a nice cozy blanket. Wonderful location, within walking distance to most everything. My only concern was the elevator that freaked me out, but I don't like elevators on a good day. All in all a great stay and will probably stay there again!

We visited New Orleans from England for Mardi Gras and to find the jazz clubs. The location of Hotel St Marie is literally just off Bourbon Street, great for dropping in whilst walking around. Noise levels from Bourbon Street are kept fairly low by double glazing in the rooms. Interior noise from other rooms and corridors is quite loud, however, apparently due to thin walls. Bring earplugs in case you get a noisy neighbour! Staff were friendly and helpful, particularly Pierre on the front desk who did everything he could to make our stay relaxed and enjoyable. Breakfast is self-service in the bar area - not extensive but perfectly good enough given it's free! If you want a big start to the day, go out and find one of the many cafes on the doorstep. The lift is not the fastest, but no slower than anything you'd generally find in Europe, maybe Americans are used to turbolifts (see other reviews)?! I would recommend staying here if you can get a good deal.

Stayed for two nights with my teenagers in a double balcony room. The location just off bourbon street was perfect. Did not hear all the craziness late at night. The hotel was very quiet, lots of retirees there at the time. The parking was great, we were able to get to our car easily to get things out. The room and bathroom were very clean. Beds a little firm for my taste, adequate but not really that comfortable. Breakfast came up a little short...a sign advertising fresh baked croissants was in the elevator. Well, they were cold and seemed more like they came from Costco. I have also stayed at the sister property, Place de Armes, and like the location of that better with kids. Its steps away from Jackson Sq and Cafe du Monde. Love NOLA but location is critical and worth a little more to be in the quarter.

The staff at the Hotel St. Marie made a quick business trip very relaxing. As a female traveler alone in the French Quarter, the professional staff at the Hotel St. Marie really did a lot to ensure that I was comfortable moving about. The front desk had a cab waiting for me at the appointed time to ensure that I would arrive timely for my business meeting. And, at the end of the day, I was given excellent advice on a restaurant within a safe walking distance for a lone female. No fancy restaurants in this hotel, but who needs that when you are in walking distance of so many fine New Orleans restaurants. There are rooms overlooking Bourbon Street for the partiers, and other (quiet) rooms overlooking the beautiful courtyard. I will definitely stay there again.

An older hotel, but clean and room amenities reflected the price. Affordable. Recommend a room looking over the courtyard, so you have a quiet nights sleep. Quaint. Room darkening shades if want it dark, and french doors with balconies over looking the pool & courtyard. Close to Bourbon Street & all major attractions in the French Quarter. Staff was very service oriented, and eager to ensure a comfortable stay, with the exception of the dining room (where the continental breakfast is offered). The dining room was not kept cleaned, nor replenished. Slow elevator. For the price, I certainly would return, but would definitely opt to go to one of the many affordable & delicious restaurants nearby for breakfast, instead.
