Myself and 3 of my best girlfriends went to NOLA for a girls' weekend trip 2 weeks ago, and we stayed at the Hotel St. Marie. It's a lovely little boutique hotel with a cute lobby, nice little patio/cafe area, and a decent restaurant. We stayed in a "Street View Room" with 2 queen beds. The room itself was a pretty standard hotel room.
-- Our room was spacious enough for 4 women and all of our stuff
-- Comfortable beds
-- Little patio which overlooked the street, which made for some pretty awesome people watching
--The restaurant was tasty, albeit a little overpriced. The little cafe had coffee, pastries, and bottled soda and water. it was also pretty overpriced, but it was very convenient.
-- The pool area was nice! Lots of little bistro tables and foliage. The pool wasn't really anything special, just a standard hotel pool.
-- LOCATION! This hotel was only a few blocks from Bourbon St. and everything else we wanted to do. We only had to take a cab once, and that was to go somewhere specific away from the French Quarter to catch a show. Everywhere else, we walked and it was great.
-- The bathroom door in our room was not a solid wooden door. Instead it had slats from top to bottom that made bathroom privacy almost nonexistent. The door also didn't have a lock.
-- Our hotel room door had 2 locks, one of which was broken. There was also not a chain on the door, which I prefer to have in hotel rooms.
-- Noise. One night, the sanitation department decided to do their collections at 2 in the morning. They were down on the street outside our room for about 30 minutes. It was annoying.
-- Supplied toiletries. LADIES! They only provide you with a bottle of "conditioning shampoo", so if you have long hair, be sure to bring your own conditioner!
-- Since there were 4 of us, we each pretty much needed a power outlet for ourselves (phone + tablet). We wound up having to unplug the alarm clock and a lamp so we'd have enough plugs. If you're traveling in a group like we were, bring a power strip!
This also definitely seems like a "party" hotel, which was fine with us. While we were there, there was a group of guys to our right on a bachelor party, and to our left another group of guys in town for a wedding. We chatted with them while out on our respective patios. So I wouldn't recommend this hotel if you're looking for quiet relaxation. On the plus side however, the rooms had thick walls as we didn't hear anything from either side while in our room.
All in all, a great pick for the price if your goal is to go to NOLA with some friends for a good time. If you're looking for something more quiet and/or romantic, I would go with someplace else. I would stay here again.
