“Worn but Clean”
Reviewed 6 April 2012

I have to preface this review by saying I used points. So, a half point for having a reasonable points structure. The lobby was bright and the staff was pleasant. My room was clean. The bathroom (which had a few updates) had a little mildew, but I suspect in NOLA this is common. To me, the downfall was the furniture. I wouldn't sit on the upholstered furniture. It looked like someone had vacuumed the sofa & chairs, but they had so much grime and dirt, it didn't help. The bed did sleep good.

The location was okay. I'm a woman and I walked to the Riverwalk and the Frenchquarter alone in both the morning and evening without anyone bothering me. The FQ is about a 15 minute walk. If you're walking back later in the day, I'd recommend coming down Magazine to Tchoupolis (sp?). Some of the other streets are a little barren. Overall, the hotel was okay. I'd stay again with my family. However, if I was alone again or with a friend, I'd think I'd rather stay at one of the smaller quaint hotels or B&Bs throughout the city.

Was here for the final 4. Had a recently renovated room which was clean and functional. Courtyard was like an oasis in the city. Renovations were ongoing but were not a problem. Breakfast was very good and front desk helpful. Location was very convenient...right near ww2 museum...5 min to convention center...15 to French quarter. Mulates restaurant nearby is outstanding. Would def stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room.

Hotel is clean and nice, but maybe close to time for a renovation. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Convenient to lots of things, but not superclose to any of them - about a mile to the Superdome, French Quarter and Convention Center. Great dining close by, though. Largest selection on a breakfast bar I've seen at any hotel like this. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms facing courtyard will be quieter. Lots of traffic all night on Tchopitoulas.

took the airport shuttle to my hotel, located a bit away from the f.q. but buses and trolley pretty close. rooms are excellent, staff excellent, Restaurants in area some of the best. I would return. Week night "socials" with free wine and snacks, free breakfast, free wifi.

Room Tip: renovated rooms are your best choice

I stayed at this hotel during Halloween weekend, which is also Voodoo Fest weekend. This is a very popular weekend for travelers to come to Nola, so it was quite expensive to get the room. However, it was less expensive than some other places. The location is good - close enough to walk to Canal St. and the French Quarter. The room was comfortable and had a kitchen. One warning - do not try to park on the street, even for only a few minutes, if it is one of the popular weekends! I parked on the street for only 10 minutes to check into the hotel, and had a ticket when I came back to the car. The city puts people on every downtown block during the busy weekends. Luckily, the hotel has a driveway where you can park during check-in, and they have a parking lot you can use for a fee.

I read the reviews regarding this hotel, however, our choices for the weekend were very limited due to the marathon and cheereading convention in town, so I expected a not so great experience. My room was $212 per night (ouch!!) for a 2 bedroom suite. Room smelled stuffy and air conditioning was very noisy in the living room area of the room. Bedding was old and not as comfortable as most Marriotts. Remodeling was going on at the hotel, however, our room had not been remodeled and was in bad need of updating and a good cleaning. (In fact, as we checked out the furniture was being removed from our room). I could not get the internet service to work on my ipad, and the front desk connected me with Lodgenet, however, the techical support people were not able to help me, so I relied on ATT G3 service the entire time, which was very slow. Staff was great, and very helpful with questions about the area and arranging for taxis, etc. If you decide to stay here, ask for a remodeled room away from the construction.

Room Tip: Ask for a remodeled room.

Very disappointed that Marriott allows their brand to be associated with this dump. The first room they put us in had a water leak so bad there was a bulge in the ceiling the size of a basketball! They were very responisve in moving us to another room but this room was just as worn as the other. Furniture was filthy, bathrooms, kitchen, etc were in terrible shape badly needing updating. Staff was very friendly, courtyard was nice. Breakfast would gag a maggot. Oh, by the way our room overlooked 2 garbage dumpsters! DO NOT STAY HERE! If going to Convention Center I would recommend staying at the Hampton Inn which is directly accross from the convention center and was very nice. If you like Motel 6 or Extended Stay Hotel you may like this place.....

Room Tip: If you MUST stay here be sure to get a room that overlooks the courtyard.
