free parking and the pretty garden district make this hotel a winner. The room was clean and I made good use of the coffee and tea available in the lobby.

Stayed two nights while visiting New Orleans. Did not want to stay downtown so did some research and found this hotel--3 miles from the French Quarter, free parking, and on the streetcar line. Staying there proved to be a great experience all the way around.

Check in was easy, no parking signs, had to drive around the corner to find the parking lot. The outside area around the hampton is very nice and comfortable. People wallking around, running around and the trolley runs down the middle of the road. The bed was comfortable, but everything else was just average.

Skip the morning breakfast, not very good. On the plus side, there is a restaurant next door that has great scene, food and drinks.

Stayed for 7-nights during Mardi Gras with my 84 year old Mother. A word of note: because they are on the Uptown parade route (19 parades in 7 days), they book up for Mardi Gras immediately after the previous years celebration. Also, they have large groups of people who book year after year, so they are filled with families with small children all the way to grandparents and great-grandparents. There were some rooms with college age guests, but definitely in the minority as far as I could see. This is a family hotel during Mardi Gras!

I admit I was initially concerned about our treatment since this was our first time and I was riding in a parade one night and needed to leave my mother alone for the day. But, the staff and fellow guests treated us as if we were long time friends and seemed to genuinely care about our enjoyment and care. After a few days, we were one of the family; and by the end of our stay we knew most of the other guests by name and were bid farewell with a "see you next year" sendoff.

From the front desk, housekeepers, breakfast ladies, and the security guard at night, the staff were fantastic. I can honestly say that they were all wonderful. Check-in and out was fast and all questions were answered immediately. Taxi was requested one morning and arrived within two minutes. Room was cleaned each day and replenished with soap, etc.; also more than enough plush towels. Breakfast was always hot and plentiful. Breakfast ladies kept the area clean and even prepared fresh biscuits for Mom one morning as a surprise! The security guard knew the guests and was very friendly, but at the same time gave off a sense of duty and made you feel safe.

If you are going to New Orleans for Mardi Gras and want to see the parades, this is definitely the hotel to pick. If you want to go into the French Quarter and drink all night, you may want to pick a hotel closer to the action. The action around this hotel is definitely Family Friendly!!

Room Tip: Book early if going during Mardi Gras

I've stayed here twice in the past two years, and both times have found it to be excellent. During my first stay, the desk manager graciously let me use the office computer for some printing and computer work that I needed to do at the last minute. The room was very comfortable and quiet. The neighborhood was quiet. The lobby was bright and welcoming. There is good Mexican restaurant just up the street, a bank across the street, and a drug store, a couple of fast food restaurants, and a bookstore nearby (all walkable). The trolley stops near the front of the hotel. We parked the car, and barely moved it during our most recent stay. It's an easy ride on the trolley to the Tulane University campus, downtown, etc.

Room's not huge, but very comfortable & quiet. Charles St trolly stops out in front. Away from the mobs downtown, lots of great restaurants nearby. Secure free parking in back.

Typical New Orleans older hotel. Updating is being done, but the rooms are small and dated. They do have new HD tV's. Great location and great staff. Lobby area is nice with good parking and controlled access to elevator. Walking distance to the entire district.
