We stayed at Hotel Mon Ami while visiting the El Remate area as a stop over to see the ruins at Tikal. The location of the hotel is right across the street from the lake with a great dock for swimming or enjoying the sunset over the lake. The rooms were pretty good for the price as well, and the one we stayed in was behind and up the hill from the main reception. The only issues we had, and they are fairly minor was that the the sheets or towels in the room were never replaced during our four nights stay. Had it been cool the whole time, it might night have made a difference, but it was hot and humid. So, the sheets and towels all smelled by the third day and were gross by the time we checked out. I believe this may have been due to the fact that they were short staffed at the time and could not leave the front desk, reception, restaurant area. The other odd thing was that the shower head was hooked up to electricity, which I found very odd. The worst thing about it was when you tried to engage this super shower head, it would shock you. Needless to say, electricity and water don't mix well, so we ended up taking these very weak dripping showers everyday because of the fear of electrocution. We ended up checking out a day earlier than planned because we wanted to take a good shower and clean up. This doesn't mean that this place wasn't good, we just didn't get that great of service. It is a good place to stay if visiting Tikal for a day or so. The only other thing I might add was that the owner returned the last day of our stay, and he was just a little creepy.... Other than that, Mon Ami was fine for the cost.
