We (a couple and myself) recently stayed 3 nights at this property and found it to be a very comfortable and pleasant. The grounds were very clean and well kept, the landscaping was excellent, and the views of the lake nice. I had a standard, double room to myself, with air conditioning and private bath for $30US per night (however they charge by the number of persons per room). It was very clean, comfortable, and had plenty of hot water. The staff was quite accommodating and friendly (but not overly so, which was good). My friends shared a premium, double for $56US ($28x2) Along with the price of the room, 1 meal a day was included. We chose breakfast each day, and it was plentiful and tasty; and I enjoyed coffee and the view from the open air restaurant each morning. They also had a 2nd story viewing deck at the back of the property next to the lake and it was awesome. The last 2 evenings we sat there and enjoyed some fine Guatemalan rum while watching the fruit bats fly around us. Anyway, we found Don David's a fine place to stay I we highly recommend it.

Room Tip: I found the standard room I had on ground floor under the restaurant to be perfectly fine and quite...

Nice, calm, safe and clean place to be. Used this Hotel during our visit to Tikal (ask for guide Salomon and chauffeur Bruno). The Tucan-Express is a nice idea and the garden is well-tended. Friendly staff.

Stayed three days at the hotel in May 2013 and found it to be better than ever. The magnificent tree in the center of the garden has firefly lights that left me speechless. The hotel staff were great and the food and lodging were perfect. Will definitely stay there again. The airconditioning is great and you can park inside the grounds. It is very convenient to Tikal for touring the ruins, to Bio Tropic Park for birding, and to the great wood carving going on in the center of El Remate. We also visited Flores and Santa Eleana this year and loved it. The hotel staff arranged horses for 8 of our party and we had a nice 3 hour ride in the hills surrounding El Remate. The guides were great and horses were gentle. Also, Zip-lining outside the gate of Tikal was just great. The ruins are a definite bucket list!

This place combines 1st world confort with a laid-back Guate ambiance to give you a really nice base to explore near by Tikal & other ruins. Easy to get to via the Flores -Tikal buses, yet just off the main road so you don't get the noise.

After considering staying at Tikal decided on this mainly for the AC at night. We're not early risers and i'd rather not awake at 4:00am to try to see the sun rise from atop a temple. Tikal is 30 minutes up the road. We easily made it there in plenty of time to spend morning and part of the afternoon walking the ruins.

We had a room under the resturant but with plenty of light & a view out to the lake. We weren't bothered by noise but it wasn't real full when we were there either. Lake view and grounds/garden was very nice. The grounds do not go all the way down to the lake but it is a little walk to the lake if you want to take a dip as we did both days we were there.

Resturant was very good but not cheap. One meal per day was included with the room. At about $45 US/night it was a bit pricey for Guate but less than the places at Tikal an definately the best place to stay a el Remate

We spent a week earlier this month in this great little hotel in El Remate that proved to be the perfect base for exploring the Mayan ruins at Tikal and Yaxha. The grounds are very pleasant, with a variety of plants and trees, a separate, raised patio area overlooking the lake, comfortable, if somewhat sparsely furnished rooms, a large second floor eating area overlooking the lake and the security of a totally enclosed compound with a locked entry gate. It is located lakeside and right off the highway to Tikal which is also the main street through the pleasant little town of El Remate. The food was good; one meal per day is included in the price of the room. The dinners were always attractive and tasty. Our favorite meal, though, was probably the "tipico" Guatemalan breakfast of refried beans, eggs, and fruit, while watching the rising sun on the lake and enjoying the cooler (relatively speaking) air of the morning.
What really distinguished the hotel, for us, was the wonderful staff. Without exception, everyone was very friendly, welcoming and thoroughly accommodating. Within two days they seemed like family. When we arrived after the dinner period on the first night and after sunset tours of the ruins later in the week, they always graciously arranged a nice dinner for us, even though they were trying to clean up and close the kitchen for the day.
We have only one suggestion--the WiFi connection is limited to the dining area, is only available until 9:00 pm and is quite limited in bandwidth--i.e. no Skype calls, video streaming, etc. permitted. This should really be updated. The hotel caters to travelers who have come to explore the Mayan ruins and culture, and those travelers (and travelers in general, nowadays) rely upon internet connectivity to make travel arrangements, visit online sites to learn more about the area and Mayan culture and history, catch up on email and the WiFi limitations make that more difficult.
The site is lovely, the price is very reasonable, the location is ideal, and the staff is exceptional. If we are fortunate enough to return to this area for more exploration, we will happily stay at La Casa de Don David again.

Room Tip: It is generally very warm and humid in this area of Guatemala, and booking a suite with air-conditio...

What an awesome experience we had with this little hotel, in general!! We flew into Flores on an early morning TACA flight from Guatemala City, were met at the airport by a driver arranged by the hotel, then went on a tour of Tikal with an amazing and knowledgeable guide we heard about through the hotel and Trip Advisor named Sam (or Samuel). At the end of the day, we had dinner at the hotel's restaurant and my son and his friend are still saying it was the best meal they had while we were in Guatemala! La Casa de Don David was clean, peaceful and quaint and was surrounded by beautiful gardens and located right on the lake. I'm so happy we chose to stay here over a lodge closer to Tikal. This hotel was perfectly located in between the airport and Tikal and offered so much to us in terms of comfort, safety and a trusted driver and guide. If I could take this same trip again I would definitely stay at La Casa de Don David and I would most definitely ask if they could help us book Sam for a tour of Tikal but I would change it slightly by staying one or two days longer this time so we could enjoy the hotel and surrounding area even more!
