My traveling companion and I had stayed at La Casa de Don David 10 years previously and were looking forward to our return trip to visit Tikal again, as well as to stay here. The grounds were even more beautiful and serene. Our room was immaculate and very pleasant Loved the hammocks to relax in.
The location on Lake Peten Itza makes it even more desirable. We wouldn't consider staying at another hotel if we returned to the area.
During our 5 night stay, Don David and Rosita spent quite a bit of time with us answering questions and providing information that we hadn't known. All of the staff were very attentive and helpful.
We could have as much purified water as we wished, which is important to us. The meals were very delicious. Room rates were very reasonable, and one meal is included in the rate.
We felt very safe, and it is quiet and peaceful at La Casa !! Many fond memories.
I must mention the enjoyment of an evening drink at the restaurant overlooking the beautiful grounds and lake ending a lovely day.

Room Tip: Do not choose a room under the restaurant, since we heard they are a bit noisy.

We stumbled upon this gem on the way to Tikal. I couldn't believe how cheap the rooms were. Very good quality. The hotel is right on the lake and the grounds are beautiful and well taken care of. The owners are an older couple. They were so sweet and helpful. It felt like home. Really love this place. The town is safe and filled with friendly locals.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights. Drove through from Belize and found this gem. The owners are from Florida. Very nice people. The place is nice and a perfect staging area to post up for Tikal. The place is clean with hot water. The location is safe and secured. The view and setting is quite scenic. It has a view of the lake. The hotel has secured parking. A restaurant is located on site and the meals are about 2 to 5 USD. The meals are well prepared and they do a good job. You will not get sick is the bottom line. We paid 32 USD for a night during low season. Great people, great food, great bargain, great location.

Very quite little place to stay when going to Tikal. It's located right on Lake Peten Itza. They serve dinner to the guests at the hotel. Everything closes up pretty early around town, so their restaurant/bar is the only thing to do. You can go sit down by the lake and order drinks from the bar and they deliver them via the 'Pelican'. Pretty cool concept. The drive is about 20-25 min to Tikal. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful, and the staff was very nice. Rooms were very clean, and they had A/C. The shower only gives you about 5 minutes of hot water, so be prepared for some cold when the tank runs out. Make sure to bring your bug spray. I was eaten alive on this trip. Overall great location, friendly staff. Would definitely recommend this place.

Our family of 4 (2 kids/2adults) stayed for 3 nights at La Casa de Don David August 2013 and it was fantastic. The staff kept the restaurant (absolutely the best around) open late to serve us dinner the night we arrived, arranged outings and generally took care of us including last minute laundry when we came home drenched after a bicycle ride along the lake. The hotel is perfectly located to enjoy the lake for swimming, renting bicycles, or hiking in biotopo Cerro Cahui (an easy walk), or venture out to the local ruins including Tikal and Yaxha. The whole family had a blast, and after looking at the other places to stay along the lake first hand (having spent hours on Trip advisor before our trip) I would recommend Don David's place over any of them, especially for families.

Room Tip: maybe ask for a room away from the parking area - unless you have a car and want to keep an ear on i...

The couple that own the place take immaculate care of the hotel and grounds. The view of the lake is peaceful and beautiful. They deliver drinks via the 'Pelican' to the deck overlooking Lake Peten Itza. . It is a short drive from Tikal and Isla de Flores. The rooms have remote control AC which is the only one we saw in all of Guatemala HOT WATER, which is another thing that is hard to find in Guatemala. FYI If you are a lady that needs a hairdryer buy one when you arrive in Guatemala or bring your own since they are not provided anywhere.

My daughter and I stayed at Hotel La Casa de Don David during our recent trip to Guatemala. We wanted to stay outside of the typical tourist area and this was a great choice. We loved the grounds and setting. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. The rooms are simple but clean and comfortable. We liked being close to Tikal (closer than Flores) and were able to get to Flores and Santa Elena fairly easy, via buses and colectivo taxis. We even had a Tuk Tuk that brought us back one night after the bus stopped running (it was a slow ride, but a great experience)!

I can't say enough about the staff at La Casa de Don David. They were very helpful and made our stay very pleasant. My recommendation: Wait until you get to the hotel to make arrangements for tours. I got hit up by San Juan travel upon arrival at Santa Elena and wish I had waited to make my arrangements with the hotel directly.

Next time I go to Tikal, I will stay here longer.
