The staff is extremely knowledgable about all of the activities in the area and make every effort to be helpful. The hotel is very comfortable and the restaurant and service in the restaurant is very good. Our trip to Tikal among other activities was organized by the hotel. It was a good value and a wonderful experience.

Great place to stay if you're looking to visit Tikal or Yaxha. The staff is friendly and always looking to help. The restaurant is very good so make sure you get your daily meal vouchers. Our room was always clean and the grounds are well maintained. We often found ourselves just laying in our room or sitting out in the hammock to take a break from the sun. La Casa has everything you would ever want or need when you want to relax after a day of trekking through Mayan ruins.

Don David's was the perfect location for our outings in El Peten. The staff, including Don David himself, were knowledgeable and friendly and eager to assist. The grounds were beautiful and the room ample, clean, and comfortable. The restaurant served delicious food at great prices. My 11 year old loved everything he was served. Of all three of our hotels in Guatemala, Don David's was our favorite!

La Casa de Don David, hotel and restaurant were superb! The rooms were "tipico", clean and the ac cool. The food was the best. My favorite the sopa frijoles con fresh sour cream and the plantains fritas con crema. The view of the lake was spectacular and the grounds were beautiful with local flora and fauna. We enjoyed the hammocks that were on each porch and those in the kioska, where we could all relax together. The trips to Ixpanpajul and Tikal were awesome and the zip lining a thrill. We will definitely do it again as soon as possible!!!

We stayed at Don David's while visiting Tikal and had a very pleasant experience overall. There were 4 adults in our party. The rooms are spartan but they were clean and the bathrooms were fine. The main reason we stayed there was because it seemed to be the only reasonable accommodation with a/c close to Tikal. We stayed in the park the 1st night and went to Don David's after a full day sightseeing in the August heat so the a/c was great to have. One of our rooms had a bit of a problem with the a/c but the staff was excellent and the problem was resolved. In fact, we cannot say enough good things about Mel who was on duty the whole time we were there - he was extremely pleasant and helpful with all our needs including helping resolve some traveling problems . The grounds are lovely, breakfast in the morning was very good and the restaurant has a wonderful view. We were very happy we chose La Casa de Don David for our stay.

I choose to stay at El Remate and La Casa de Don David after reading the reviews, and am so glad I did. It was a clean, safe, relaxing environment and everyone was warm, friendly and helpful. El Remate is a small town and if you want a more lively atmosphere with lots of people, then maybe Flores would be better. But if you want to kick back, lay on a hammock, watch the sunset over the lake and just chill out, then this is a wonderful place. The location was very convenient to Tikal and Yaxha. La Casa was excellent value for money, I thought, and everyone there was great. They went out of their way to ensure that I had a pleasant stay and got to enjoy the area. I would definitely stay there again if I was headed back there.

After debating the options of staying in Tikal itself, or in the larger city of Flores, we chose El Remate in the middle - and are glad we did. Casa de Don David served as a good base from which to explore Tikal.

Pros:
- Location: in El Remate (on the road from Flores to Tikal), but off the main drag
- Surroundings: the grounds are pretty, with a spacious, well-landscaped garden - you can see the lake, but can't access it directly (short walk around the corner to reach it)
- Staff: David himself and all the staff were generally very helpful
- Tikal access: Many options exist for accessing Tikal, we used the early-morning bus twice and it was perfect for us

Cons:
- Food was OK. Not terrible, but not memorable (nice setting, though)
- Hot water ran out quickly; had to shower *very* strategically
- Rooms were basic (not unexpected)

Suggestions:
- We did Tikal twice, the first day with a guide, and the second day on our own to explore. If you have the time it's worth going more than once - the grounds are massive, and between the ruins and wildlife spotting there's much to absorb.
- Mon Ami, just down the road from Casa de Don David, was a nice walk along the lake on a smaller road, and good for a light meal
- We came from Belize via bus; the bus from Belize City to Flores can drop you off at 'El Cruce' on the edge of town. From there it's a short walk to the hotel (El Remate is small). Not only was this cheaper and just as fast door-to-door as flying from Belize to Flores, it was a great way to see the Belizean and Guatemalan countryside.
