“Sad to report”
Reviewed 4 April 2014

Sadly, Il Forno has closed its doors. They were unable to sustain the business. That's too bad as Joe was very good at what he did.

“Real, personal serviceand excellent food!”
Reviewed 10 November 2013

We stopped for lunch on a very rainy Saturday and were the only customers there. The owner, Joe, greeted us. We were disappointed to learn that the only menu offerings were pizza and pasta, as one of us is seriously gluten intolerant. We explained to Joe and he said, No problem. He had just been to the market and had some fresh veal chops--he offered to prepare one specially with a side of polenta, fresh tomato and garlic sauce. The pizza he prepared for my partner was, she said, incredible. My veal chop was perfectly grilled and served. Thank you, Joe! We will definitely return!

“Return of Joe--outstanding experience!”
Reviewed 25 July 2013

Joe ran Il Forno from ~ 2007-2001. Il Forno changed management ~ 2011. When we came to Volcan May-June 2013 we tried to stop in just about every other night, but it was closed each time we tried. It turns out Joe had come back and was cleaning up before re-opening.
When we came back to Volcan after a couple weeks away we were thrilled to see cars parked there. We came in and were immediately seated--no small feat when we are 4 adults and 9 children.
The kids were entertained watching the brick-oven pizza being made, and the adults had fun just watching the kids watch the pizza.
This is by far the best pizza we have had in Volcan, and perhaps in Chirirqui! Thanks, Joe for a great experience!

“Passion for authentic Italian cuisine”
Reviewed 27 December 2012

We decided to try for our first evening in Volcan restaurante Il Forno. The chef Piero and his lovely wife Veronica greated us personally at the door and took the time to explain the menu and offer us a surprising Italian wine selection.

The restaurant sits near the main town road and the decor has lots of character, woodwork, cozy atmosphere.

We ordered the Bavette, Entrana en espagnol served with mixed greens, fresh pears and mozzarella ( home made ). Secondly, the contre-filet with Gorgonzola and nuts served with pasta y aioli and garlic.

The Entrana was by far in the top three steaks we have ever eaten. Piero selects and cuts his own meat and it does make a difference.

We finished our meal with panacotta and limoncello, again home made!

Overall Piero and Veronica have a true passion for food and during our entire evening, kept showing us different mar leaders and breads freshly prepared. They were so excited, it is was enticing!!

The pricing was quite affordable for North American tourists and for the highly prized region. A meal will cost you around $45 for 2 with no alcohol.

Take note they will be relocating to David in January - I highly suggest you take the time to follow this amazing chef. His restaurant will be located near the Pricemart on the Panamerican highway.
