Have always been very happy with holiday inn expresses and this was no exception. Seemed pricier than other holiday inn expresses at $169 per night for a basic room, but was comparable to other hotels in the area. They do allow smoking on the back patio which I thought was unusual for a smoke free facility. Problem with this was the chain smoking granny who was watching her rambunctious grand kids in the pool had the patio door propped open with cigarette smoke billowing right into the pool area. No sure about SD law, but in Illinois you can't smoke within 10 ft of doorways. Maybe holiday inn could change the patio to non-smoking?

Thank you so much for staying with us and writing a review about our hotel. I am glad you enjoyed your time here. I am sorry about the pool door being open by the smoker pole, we have since moved that pole so that it would not be near the pool door. Thank you for your comments and for staying with us.

Stayed here as a family of 5. Hotel was very pretty inside, clean and comfortable beds. Breakfast was great and constantly restocked. We enjoyed the pool and the patio outside. There are pretty views from the dining area and the pool. Our room also faced the rear of the hotel whig was a really pretty mountain side. I am picky about where I stay, and I have absolutely no complaints. There aren't a lot of dining options nearby, but we were out and about each day seeing parks, so it wasn't too much of a problem. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Great choice for families. Our room was quiet, breakfast was always busy but the ladies worked very hard to keep things full. I especially enjoyed the sitting area outside. We took our breakfast out there every morning to get a break from the breakfast crowd. Custer is located close to most places you would want to visit.

Great place for larger families to stay! Good food for breakfast and helpful staff. Worth coming back to. A little far from the sights but close to Custer state park. Right on the main drag between lots of other hotels. Nice backyard to eat breakfast in (but needs to be weeded or trimmed).

STOP! Don’t even think about this place if you want it quiet. It is considered a “family motel” so there are small children screaming and running all over the place. The feel of this motel is very nice the minute you enter with a log and rustic wilderness touch. The backside has a lovely huge rock waterfall overlooking a nice patio. The staff is friendly and very helpful, however we were given a double queen room overlooking the back and peaceful side. We thought it was too small for us with two grandchildren and we asked for a larger room. The only one they had was a handicapped room, right by the elevator and ice machine on the 3rd floor. It was a nice large room with a balcony but terrible location. We were awakened at 6:15 AM by people getting ice every 15 minutes and noisy loud children next to us. We were told they were sold out and they would not change our room, even though new people had not arrived yet. It had a very tiny kitchenette with sink, microwave and mini refrigerator. The closet was like a small amoire so it doesn’t hold much. Some of the towels were worn and frayed and the sheets were thin. Breakfast is included and is exactly like what most all other Holiday Inn Expresses serve. The pancake machine was down for two mornings which disappointed the children. The eating area was large and nice. We are seniors and like quiet, so no way would we return, and we left a day early. There were other people checking out early also because of the noise level here.

Room Tip: If you want a bit of quiet, ask for a room at the end of the hallway facing the backside. If you wan...

Very nice hotel. Friendly staff, clean rooms, and nice pool for the kids. Very close to several activities. It appeared to be a fairly new hotel. Very large breakfast area and the attendant kept everything filled up during a very busy breakfast.

We enjoyed everything about this hotel. We had a balcony room, which faced the Flintstones attraction and it was not overly noisy. The beds were comfortable and the breakfast was good as well. The staff members were nice and friendly. Location was good for us, but some might not prefer to be on the very edge of the town, or at least that is what it felt like.
