“Wonderful time, amazing scenery, friendly rangers”
Reviewed 22 October 2013

We had a great time. We spent 3 nights at Blue Bell Campground. Ate at the Blue Bell Lodge and it was great. Staff was super friendly. Park staff everywhere we went were really nice and helpful. Scenery was beautiful. We saw so much wildlife: Buffalo, burros, dear, sheep, prarie dogs, etc. Campground was great. Took some work to get level on the pad where we were. They are electric only. No water at the sites though there is a pump near the bathrooms. Take the wildlife loop in the morning and you won't be disappointed. we even took some of the dirt roads off of it $15 park pass is good for 7 days and lets you have access to the whole park. And that's a lot of park to cover. :)

“A Wonderful Drive...”
Reviewed 19 October 2013

My wife and i drove through here after a drive through to Sylvan Lake. $15 will allow you park access for one vehicle for 7 days. More than worth it given all that you have access to.
The park has so much variety of landscapes, all unique and interesting. Make sure that you take the loop road drive in order to experience the wide variety of animal life. Pronghorns, Burro, Prairie Dogs and much more. You drive through rocky canyons, wooded hillsides and wide open prairie, each with it's own selection of wildlife.
Bison do roam a huge area but when we visited they were all in the vicinity of the corral as it was after the big round-up event. You can drive into the corral area to view them. impressive.

“One of my favorite state parks”
Reviewed 19 October 2013

The scenery is awesome. Do the wildlife loop early in the morning or late evening. A lot of wildlife near the intersection with route 16A. Do the Needles Highway starting at Spring Creek then take route 753 to Iron Mountain Road and head north. There are a couple viewpoints along this road of Mount Rushmore. Also, on Needles do the Cathedral Spires Hiking Trail.

“Must see”
Reviewed 19 October 2013 via mobile

The park is absolutely beautiful. We came in October and there were very few crowds and we say lots of wildlife, deer, antelope, wild turkey, bison and the like. Lots of attractions for everyone -- truly a must visit.

“Wildlife Galore”
Reviewed 19 October 2013

During the government shutdown The first week of October 1st, Mt. Rushmore was closed, so we came here after a quick drive by. Whew! Sept. 27-28 the park rounded up the park's 1,500 bison, and had herded them into corrals. We were able to watch them weigh, vaccinate, brand, give pregnancy checks, and "select" those going to market. VERY interesting!!

Besides the bison there were pronghorns, big horn sheep, and wild burros...and lots of birds, and other wildlife. The park is very visitor friendly, and at this time of year admission is based on the honor system. We put $ in a pay envelope in an unmanned booth. It was well worth our $15 entry fee! Definitely a highlight of our "out west" vacation.
