The view at Sylvan Lake was simply breathtaking. We spent the afternoon swimming and walking the one mile trail around the lake. The water is quite cool, but felt refreshing on a warm August day.

You will see many people climbing the rocks, including the kids, just be careful as many children get over confident in their rock climbing ability and probably venture out further than they should.

A beautiful, picturesque lake set at the top of the Black Hills. Nestled between boulders, the lake is simply beautiful. There is a nice, easy hiking trail around the lake, great for young families, and plenty of areas to swim or kayak. It was our favorite stop in the Black Hills.

I had heard so many comments about Sylvan Lake that we made a quick trip to check it out. It really is a gorgeous setting. We walked around the lake (about 45 minutes) and I was a bit nervous for my young grandchildren climbing on the rocks around part of the lake, but they didn't have any trouble. You do need good walking shoes (I saw an older man in cowboy boots walking on the bridge and I was a bit concerned about his slipping). We had a great time and there were beautiful photo ops. Definitely worth the time.

If you are in the park on a clear day, take the time to drive to Sylvan Lake. The reflection of the rock formations is fantastic and the mirror image was beautiful. The park offers free canoes and lessons there on certain days of the week.
